I worked at Vantage Health System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Vantage was a good place to work because of the friendliness of staff and professionalism that was excellent; enjoyed working with the staff and clients.

    Cons

Too many changes and was going back and forth between two sites and caseloads; became too overwhelming and stressful for me.

    Advice to Management

    none

I worked at Vantage Health System part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Union protects employees only to a small extent but mostly works behind the scenes with management so it's not a TRUE union.

    Cons

Extremely low pay. No raises - only a few cents if there is a raise. Terrible management who are not qualified for the job and do not treat all employees the same. Certain employees get away with murder while other employees are consistently written up. They allowed an employee to continue working after stealing money from their disabled consumers and actually covered it up. They have a roach problem in their residence for years where their consumers live and still have not corrected the problem. Management accuses you of things you never did and interrogates you like detectives trying to get you to admit things you never did. They are not nice people and practice bullying on a regular basis. This is how they run their business. They call you into meetings on your off hours to waste your time and bully you over non-sense so they can write you up for something. They should be ashamed to call themselves social workers and health care workers because they are very deceptive people in charge at this organization. I would be very surprised if this organization remains open due to their lack of organization, values, business ethics and budget cuts coming down the pike. The only reason they received a 2 star is because they do give you significant personal and vacation time (good for work/life balance) BUT if they do not like you, they make it difficult for you to use it (breach of LABOR LAW).

    Pros

Ability to grow and learn, depending upon which part of the company one worked for. Vantage is a lot of separate areas, two partial cares, one DD program, various group homes, a school for boys with substance abuse programs. Depending on where one is, there can be the opportunity to work with people who are very forward-thinking or very old-fashioned and paternalistic.

    Cons

Upper management is horrific, outright lies to staff. Relations between management and the union is open warfare. Young people come for a few months at best and then leave, this is the lowest paying agency in Bergen County.

    Advice to Management

There must be more respect to the workers.

    Pros

The ability to make decisions on my own without being micromanaged. Being paid for being on call. Having a company vehicle to take to and fro work when being on call.

    Cons

Being so far from headquarters sometimes feels like we're ignored. I don't like the two week order process for supplies and equipment.

    Advice to Management

Don't ignore the value of sales and marketing, and feel referrals will just come in on their own. Pay employees mileage checks on a timely basis.
