I worked at Voith full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Voith is a company that is truly dedicated to its stakeholders, including employees. They follow through on commitments including compensation, benefits, and advancement. If you are looking for a long term stable career, Voith is a great place to start. That is why they are proud to call themselves Voithians.

    Cons

The company is a bit of a dinosaur but still creates technology that no one can replace in terms of quality and design. However there are stagnant areas of such a large organization.

    Advice to Management

New and more frequent product innovation or acquisitions into non traditional areas

I worked at Voith full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits.
    Interesting lines of business.
    Top notch facilities.

    Cons

Constantly lied to, and if anything materializes, it'll be used to stab you in the back.
Most of the work is busy work.
Expect to do the work of others because they can't do their jobs.
    Very discriminatory towards men.

    Advice to Management

    Replace line managers immediately.
Don't retain people who just copy and paste things from spreadsheets into the ERP system.
Let people work. Don't pester people because you are unable to do your jobs.

I worked at Voith full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Global Company, Large Privately held company.

    Cons

Global Company but locally focused. If you are looking for an international opportunity, then this is probably not the place for you. Very structured (German), but also very rigid and not very creative.

This is a great place to work if you are an accountant - they have more accountants than I have seen at any company. With that said, the management watches EVERY penny to the point that they are cheap and unwilling to invest in their basic infrastructure to grow their business. All costs from copier paper to pens are closely watched. It's more about how much they can take out of costs, than what can be invested for a good return, or producing a good quality product for the customer. Being top quality is not a concern as long as the product(s) are good enough to meet expectations.

The HR has a full time job on their hands trying find a way to engage and retain employees, while at the same time processing termination and resignation packages. It's a revolving door with weekly, if not daily departures.

    Advice to Management

There is plenty of advice given in the Cons box above.

I have been working at Voith (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Family-owned company, which allows for longer-term strategic planning. Complex, interesting, and custom-designed products leads to solid employee retention. International company allows for global relationship building and travel opportunities. Transparent and ethical approach with customers - strong focus on "Voith Values". Plenty of collaboration and openness to new technical ideas.

    Cons

Several of the offices are in less-than-desireable locations, making it tougher to attract top-end talent. This, along with the complicated product, makes it difficult to "trim the fat" so to say. Can be slow to adopt change, conservative in risk assessments, and heavy on markups. Traditional approach to HR and employee handling...they feel fair, but not exactly bringing unique value to me as an employee. General feeling that Germans are given preferential treatment, particularly the farther up the organizational ladder you look.

    Advice to Management

Look for ways to reduce markups to enhance price-competitiveness. Consider more modern personnel approach, e.g. work-from-home arrangements, more flexible work hours, etc.

    Pros

Very clean climate controlled workplace. Not hard work at all, anyone can do it. Nice coworkers that like to help you learn

    Cons

Maintenance is slack and let's things fall apart and when they should call someone else to come in and fix a machine, they try fixing over and over and let the department fall behind on orders

    Advice to Management

    Treat employees betters

I worked at Voith (Less than a year)

    Pros

Wages were decent for the work performed

    Cons

Only start out part time on call so hours were never regular and not always available, managers and he played favorites, people knew they had Union back up so were incredibly lazy, forced to join Union and pay monthly union dues to even work here even though it's a right to work state

I worked at Voith full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I had a positive experience working for this company. Employees are treated with respect and I felt valued. If I had the opportunity and they had a position available at my current location I would definitely try to go back and work for them.

    Cons

In order to advance and move up into management you will most likely have to relocate. I felt the pay was a little low for the amount of responsibility you have.

    Advice to Management

Develop employee retention programs for hourly and salary employees. Get creative with employee schedules so they can get time off on the weekends.

    Pros

Good job security and plenty of mentorship to help out with new hires. Will allow for a lot of travel if desired.

    Cons

No room to move up and lousy raises. They also do not like to move people from department to department to move up.

    Advice to Management

engage employees more and challenge them on projects. take more risks to keep work flow into the company.
