Illegal Practices, Depressing Workplace, Run by Bullying Incompetent Cowboys
Pros
Working here has been a harsh, eye-opening experience that has taught me never to lower myself again to work for bullies, cowboys, or anyone who treats employees with such disrespect and dishonesty. It has reinforced that my skills, experience, and time deserve to be acknowledged, celebrated, and respected. This job has made it painfully clear what a toxic, unprofessional, and unlawful workplace looks like, and has strengthened my resolve to only work in environments where employees are trusted, treated fairly, and genuinely valued.
Cons
The most unprofessional, exploitative, and dishonest employers I have ever encountered. From the very start, it was clear they have no respect for staff, no understanding of UK employment law, and no interest in running a professional or fair workplace. On my first day, I was given a contract full of errors, vague and meaningless wording, and illegal clauses. Pension contributions were deducted incorrectly from salary, and when I asked for clarification, the owner could not explain any of it and pushed responsibility to her accountant. That alone should have been enough of a warning. Hours of work were also changed a week into my employment without notice, consultation, or written agreement – another clear breach of employment law. Staff are treated with suspicion and subjected to an unnecessarily strict system of clocking in and out. Phones are stored away, and even an emergency call is deducted from your break. Your every move is micro-managed, it felt like I was in a school detention or a 19th-century factory than a modern workplace. The holiday policy is deliberately misleading. They advertise 28 days’ leave, but this includes bank holidays which are neither recognised nor paid. Staff are expected to take bank holidays as unpaid leave. Never in any office-based role have I come across such a ridiculous approach to bank holidays – in what professional workplace are bank holidays treated as normal working days? I'm unsure whether the owners genuinely misunderstand what a bank holiday is or whether it's a calculated attempt to mislead applicants. The job advert was equally misleading. “Free parking” turned out to mean a 10-minute walk to residential street parking. The role was sold as being at their “Manchester HQ,” when in reality it was a small office in Stockport with only three staff. The office itself is dull, uninspiring, and stale - hardly the kind of environment anyone would expect from a company claiming to operate a 'headquarters'. The advertised salary range was also deceptive. They list figures such as £30–50k, but in reality they will always offer the lowest possible amount, regardless of experience or skill. Simply another way to deceive applicants. The working environment was cold and unwelcoming. No culture or morale and lacked any sense of friendliness or social interaction. The tasks themselves were repetitive, uninspiring, and occasionally embarrassing, particularly being pushed into producing forced, low-quality, cringe-worthy social content. Pay was repeatedly late, blamed on 'payroll issues'. This is not only unprofessional but its illegal. People rely on timely wages, and this company cannot even meet that most basic obligation. My employment was then terminated suddenly, without warning, reason, or any professional explanation. The owner refused to discuss it in person and instead directed me to email if I wanted answers. The responses I eventually received were vague, contradictory, and completely unsubstantiated. Even the termination process itself breached their own contract terms. They even went as far as to lie about things I had supposedly done or said - this behaviour is blatant bullying. This company misrepresents itself to job seekers, completely disregards the law, and treats staff as completely disposable. It is a cringe-worthy, wannabe operation, led by cowboys who have absolutely no idea how to manage or respect employees. After seeking legal advice from multiple organisations, all expressed serious concerns and were astonished that a company like this continues to operate. If you are considering working here, don't lower yourself, your experience, or your skills to work for these amateurs. Save yourself the humiliation, the disrespect, and the wasted time. Gee Hair is not a career move - it is a trap set by people who should never be in charge of a business, let alone someone else’s livelihood.
