Addison Group honors Black History Month. Black History Month, held annually for the entire month of February, celebrates the contributions and legacy of African Americans in U.S. history. Beginning in 1926 as a weeklong celebration, thanks to Dr. Carter G. Woodson and minister Jesse E. Moorland (and promoted by their nonprofit ASALH: Association for the Study of African American Life and History), it was officially recognized in 1976 by President Gerald Ford as Black History Month. This year's Black History Month theme is "Black Resistance," which explores and educates audiences on how African Americans have resisted historical and ongoing oppression in all forms to fight for safe spaces that sustain, fortify, and respect Black lives. This month (and year-round), we encourage you to listen and hold space for the Black community to share their experiences, so you can continue to become a better ally in the fight for racial equality.
