Citizenship is at the heart of who we are, rooted in the belief that when people and communities reach their potential, we all thrive. This week, Citizens and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) announced the establishment of the first-ever “Citizens Helping Citizens” Scholarship to build accessible pathways, while providing opportunities of cultural awareness, understanding, & leadership nationally for high school students who are pursing postsecondary education. The program provides $50k in scholarship to 10 high school students entering a 2 or a 4-year college, university, or trade school in the fall of 2024, ensuring students have the proper resources and knowledge to help them reach their full potential. “Coming together with UNCF to launch the Citizens Helping Citizens Scholarship allows us to accelerate our commitment in building a more inclusive future to meet the ever-changing needs of our young people,” said Yvette Vargas, Head of Development at Citizens. “We're delighted to invest into the next generation of students by providing access to education, which fuels continuous learning, skills development, and professional aspirations.” The ongoing partnership between Citizens and UNCF has provided value beyond the scholarship, with key investments, mentorship, and workforce development initiatives for students from Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs). Share with the qualifying high school seniors in your network. Applications are due 5p EST on 5/13/24.

In honor of National Volunteer Month, we're flipping the spotlight on our colleague volunteers. What makes Citizens stand out are our passionate colleagues who genuinely care about helping our customers and communities thrive. This is shown in how we show up to give back to the neighborhoods where we live and work. In 2023, nearly 9,000 colleagues donated more than 232,000 service hours to support 3,200 nonprofits. Amongst the super-regional banks, our civic engagement totals are above and beyond our peers and are a true differentiator that sets apart our culture and the impact we have on our communities. Plus, every colleague receives 4 hours of additional PTO annually for volunteer-related activities and Citizens matches colleague donations (up to $1,000 annually) to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Together, we are Made Ready to Make a Difference!
