Our team of logistics experts made the most of their two days together at the recent DR Logistics Summit, having meaningful conversations with customers and prospects about the ongoing advancement of this crucial location as a hashtag#nearshoring hub. As part of our ambitious itinerary, Brett Bennett, Senior Vice President and General Manager – Logistics, participated on a panel about “Connectivity”, demonstrating our continued support of economic development in this region. Carry the World. Forward.
In honor of National Volunteer Month in April, our employees embraced the spirit of giving back. Over 400 team members across the U.S. mainland, Alaska, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Central America helped people and gave service to the many communities where we operate. We're proud and thankful for their commitment to service and our values.
We are proud to welcome Phil Shook as senior vice president and general manager of our new business unit, Land Transportation Services. Shook brings extensive industry experience and leadership to Crowley and will be responsible for commercial business in North America, including land-based transportation, such as brokerage solutions, intermodal services, trucking and managed transportation.
Engage with us by reading our blog, which features employees who started as interns. Gain valuable insights and perspectives on why students should consider the transportation industry as a place to begin their careers. Charles Lebus, who started as an intern and is now a specialist in end-user technology support at Crowley, said the industry has much more to offer than meets the eye.
Small businesses drive economic growth across America and serve a crucial role in the U.S. Department of Defense supply chain. TriplePundit explores how Crowley Government Solutions supports small and diverse businesses owned by women, veterans and in traditionally disadvantaged areas grow through partnership in defense freight services with US Transportation Command. Between 2018 and 2023, Crowley grew its DFTS network of suppliers by more than 500%. While they thrive - exceeding government goals - so does the supply chain by becoming more resilient and diverse.
Crowley has been recognized by Shell for our outstanding performance and loyalty in Alaska and the U.S. West Coast. This achievement reflects our team's dedication to providing unparalleled service and support to our residential customers, businesses, and communities. Thank you to Shell for their trust in our people and service.
Investing in port infrastructure and U.S. mariners is essential to keeping the flow of supplies that our communities need. James C. Fowler, senior vice president and general manager of Crowley Shipping, testified at a U.S. House joint committee field hearing in Miami on the importance of continuing those investments, the critical need to address shortfalls of mariners, as well as prioritizing safety and security for America's ports and maritime industry. "An important part of maintaining resiliency in our supply chains is ensuring that our nation’s port infrastructure receives the investment necessary to accommodate the movement of trade both now and in the future," Fowler stated, also noting, "while progress has been made in addressing various challenges facing the maritime industry, continued vigilance and investment are essential to ensure the safety, security, and resilience of our ports and supply chains."
We are excited to be part of this launch! Together, we empower students to reach their full potential by bridging the gap between education and the workplace through mentorship. We thank Crowley’s BRIDGE business resource group for their continued support for the next generation of leaders in Jacksonville.

Coming in 2025 are our four newly-named Avance-Class, LNG-powered container vessels - Quetzal, Copan, Tiscapa and Torogoz. Designed to enrich our fleet serving the U.S. and Central America, these vessels will be named after the latter region's national birds, archaeological sites, and lakes.
