Over the past two weeks, we hosted three separate job shadow days at our Western Operations Center. These visits allowed students from Navarro, Seguin, Clemens and Wagner High Schools to get to know GVEC, the services we have have to offer, and allowed them to explore potential employment opportunities that could be available after high school or college. Students spent time with Electricians, Line Design Techs, R.O.W Agents and IT as well as listened to presentations by GVEC Home and GVEC.net. We appreciate the opportunity to share GVEC with our future workforce! #teamGVEC
Class is officially in session for our four Apprentice Electricians. GVEC Home was recently approved for an Electrical Apprenticeship Training Program registered with the Texas Department of Labor, where Apprentices can learn valuable skills about their profession and earn credits toward the program, all while employed at GVEC. Our Apprentices spend time each week in class with our Master Electrician and Electrical Services Manager to focus on curriculum after their time out in the field focusing on application. #teamGVEC
Yesterday we had a grande old time at the Showcase Seguin Roaring Twenties Trade Show, hosted by the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce! We enjoyed talking to community members about all the great products and services GVEC has to offer, while having a good time doing it! We were extra thrilled to show off our Tesla Powerwall for residential battery storage at our booth. What night of razzle-dazzle it was!
Every year we plan a fun evening to celebrate our employees for all their hard work and dedication! This past weekend, we hosted our annual Employee Appreciation event, where we present two major awards—Employee of the Year and the General Manager's Award. Employee of the Year goes to an employee nominated and voted on by fellow GVEC employees. The General Manager's Award is chosen by our General Manager and CEO Darren Schauer. This year's Employee of the Year recipient was Control Center Operator II Ben Lapp, who has worked at GVEC for 7 years. Gerri Lawing was the General Manager's Award recipient this year! Gerri is our Economic Development Director, who has been part of the GVEC team for 11 years. We are proud of these two and appreciate all the hard work they do!
Partnering with Moulton ISD through the FCC’s E-rate program, GVEC has been working hard on bringing high-speed Fiber Internet service to the district, which will allow them to have the same advantages as schools in more metropolitan areas. Check out some progress photos of their fiber buildout, projected to be complete soon! Find out more about GVEC’s involvement with E-rate on our website: https://www.gvec.net/other-services/e-rate-program/
New Year, new possibilities. This week, Management Associate, Jared Markham is cross training with Safety & Loss Control Coordinator, Todd Craven to kick off his two-year rotational program here at GVEC. As part of the MAT Program, Jared will spend time in each of our departments to work hands on alongside the teams and to gain a deep understanding of the different roles, projects, challenges and tasks of the respective areas. #teamGVEC
As a way to say THANK YOU to our employees, GVEC set up massage therapists to come by each of our offices and give employees the opportunity to start or end their day with a massage! We love making sure our employees know how much we appreciate them! #teamGVEC
