We are thrilled to be selected as the People's Choice for Best Insurance Company in the Seattle Times Annual "Best in the PNW" contest. Thank you to all who voted for PEMCO. We couldn't be prouder to serve our members and our communities.
Happy Earth Month! Our employees find ways to give back to the community year-round, but we want to give a special shout-out to our colleagues who are participating in volunteer events this month with local nonprofits that, like us, are committed to environmental stewardship. We had a great time with our partners, including Adopt-a-Highway, Spokane Conservation District, Forterra and Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust.
We're proud to share that we've been named one of America's Best Insurance Companies 2022 by Forbes, and ranked highest at #1 in the Auto category. Thank you to our PEMCO customers, employees and community! We're passionate about defending the stuff you care about, so you can worry less and live more.
“Hispanic Heritage Month gives me the opportunity to stop and reflect on my Hispanic identity. And when I reflect, I realize I have a lot to be proud of,” shares Lynne Aspin, one of our Human Resources Business Partners, pictured above right. We recently wrapped up our celebrations of Hispanic Heritage Month with an internal "Café PEMCO" virtual event, listening to Lynne and Office Operations Coordinator Jackie Offield share their experiences and what being Hispanic means to them. Lynne and Jackie also shared some sweet family photos -- check out our Facebook post for more!
We recently hosted panel discussions in our offices for National Veterans & Military Families Month, welcoming employee veterans and guests from Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Fairchild Air Force Bases. Our panelists spoke about the challenges of transitioning from the military to a corporate job, and how the skills they honed in the military – leadership, critical thinking and emotional intelligence, among others – shaped who they are today. It was a great discussion, and a chance to discover how many of our colleagues have previous military experience or family connections.
A big thank you to our amazing employee volunteers, who visited Rising Star, Bailey Gatzert and Lidgerwood elementary schools in Seattle and Spokane to teach local students what they can do to be mentally and physically prepared to handle an emergency. In partnership with the American Red Cross, our team shared info and tools to help students keep themselves and their families safe during an earthquake, house fire or storm. We were honored earlier this week to welcome Commander Matt Kaslik to our Seattle office to raise the official flag of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. He spoke with us about his Northwest ties (he's served at the naval bases in Bremerton and Whidbey Island), how much practice it *really* takes to make those aerial moves look so effortless (it's pretty intense!), and how seeing so much community support for the squadron is one of the most rewarding parts of the job. Thank you again, Commander Kaslik, for your time. We're looking forward to watching the Blues in action this weekend!
In honor of June’s Flag Day, we invited PEMCO employees who are also military veterans to participate in a lunchtime presentation at our Seattle office. James Farris, Sandy Malone, Curt Simonson and Maurice Ward talked about their personal experiences in the military, as well as their successful transitions into civilian life. The quartet answered audience questions about why they enlisted, what it was like serving in the military and how their experiences helped them prepare for life after the military. They ended their discussion by reminiscing about their most memorable and rewarding military experiences, and used words like “trust,” “confidence,” and “action” when describing their most important lessons learned. Those who attended the talk were also invited to share their stories. We learned many of our colleagues have a strong connection to the military, through family members. At PEMCO, we value diversity and inclusion and believe we better serve everyone by representing everyone. We’re fortunate and proud to have so many employees who’ve served our country.
Our PEMCO team headed to Ruckersville, Va., last week to test out the latest auto crash-prevention technologies at the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety/Highway Loss Data Institute. Our VP of Operations, Harris Clarke, led us to learn more about how features like forward collision warning systems, auto emergency braking, curve-adaptive headlights, parking sensors, and blind spot warning systems are making cars safer. Our team, including VP of People & Brand MJ Vigil, other PEMCO leaders, and community agents, also got a close-up look at crash testing and delved into the effects these new safety systems are having on claims. Thanks, Harris, for hosting our immersion!
