For the past 5 years the Pressley Ridge Day School Pittsburgh has partnered with Allegheny CleanWays. Hannah from Allegheny CleanWays provides environmental education to our students a few times a year. In return, our students get to spend time on the river cleaning up garbage and putting what they have learned into action. This summer, Hannah and Allegheny CleanWays invited some of our staff out on the three rivers to reinforce the importance of our collaboration (and to pick up garbage of course). They collected a cornucopia of garbage, learned about the homeless encampments along the river and how other non-profit organizations support the effort in keeping our rivers clean. Thanks to Allegheny CleanWays for a great experience!
Each year, FFTA brings together leaders, practitioners, and partners in the health and human services sector to share their collective knowledge and proven solutions for advancing wellness in youth, families and communities. Pressley Ridge is an active member of FFTA and a proud sponsor of the annual conference. At this year’s conference, held in Columbus, Ohio, members of the Organizational Performance department and the Training Department presented information on 4 important topics related to the work that we do here at Pressley Ridge. Kimberly Lohrfink (Org Performance), Brianna Hancovsky (Org Performance) and Amy Strickler (Texas Family Care Network) presented a poster on Data Literacy, entitled “What’s your Data Persona? Tips for developing a data-driven culture”. Amy, Kimberly, and Brianna also co-presented with Megan Frederick-Usoh (Wisconsin Children’s) on “Equity-Focused Reporting: 10 Ways to Create Inclusive Data Visualizations”. Mike Kaelin (External Training and Consultation) and Amy Strickler presented a session on “Supporting Foster Parents, and Children, through Allegations in the Home”. Jennifer Benner (Pre-Service Training) and Paul Wolfe (Learning and Development) discussed the common occurrence of power struggles with youth and how to best respond in their session on “Responding to Verbal Retorts and Retaliations”.
Lieutenant Emily Daquelente was hired in May 2022 as an Outpatient Therapist. A week after starting at the Family Counseling Center in Pittsburgh, Emily found out that she was being deployed to Iraq for a year. She continued to work for us until August 2022 and has remained in contact with her supervisors during her deployment. Recently, the Family Counseling Center staff were surprised and honored to receive a flag that was flown in Iraq in April 2023 in honor of Pressley Ridge’s anniversary, along with letters of appreciation from Emily and her Commander. We are grateful to Emily for honoring Pressley Ridge, as well as her dedication and service to our country!
