RKS worked with the Hamilton Company to define and design the MicrolabPrep system. Laboratory automation can revolutionize the work in any lab, bringing speed and consistency to pipetting work that is often monotonous and prone to error. Hamilton MicroLab Prep is a table-top automated liquid handling solution that increases access to precision scientific equipment. This new innovative solution enables users to make their workflows faster and more precise by bringing automation to a manually intensive workflow. Microlab Prep provided the category with a compact automated liquid pipetting solution, providing a lab of any size the ability to increase efficiency for users of any skill level to run protocols.
the designer Vol. 8 just released! Each month we publish "the designer" a newsletter that focuses on design and innovation. This month, we highlight a new metal (Nitinol), our 1st Designathon at UC Berkeley, and some RKS client success stories.
We worked with Discus Dental (acquired by Philips) to #design, #engineer, and #brand an advanced dental composite syringe to enhance usability for dental assistances and outperform the competition. RKS worked with Discus Dental to disrupt the composite category by #benchmarking and #defining a #strategy to outperform existing #products. Utilizing our #Psycho#Aestheticss methodology, we identified critical #touchpoints and #improvements that would bring the most value to users in a high-paced environment. The key improvements included an #ergonomic handle for easy dispensing and color-coded graphics to quickly identify the right materials. Additionally, the team integrated #haptic and #visual feedback to enable the user to properly dose the expensive composite material. The hinged cap helps ensure that the cap doesn’t get lost, and material is wasted. The design was #prototyped, #iterated, and #tested with users to ensure that the final solution addressed the end-users’ needs. This #awardwinning system of composite syringes created strong patents in the category and enabled Discus D
The founders of FloWater partnered with RKS to fulfill their vision to create a more refreshing and #sustainable alternative to disposable plastic water bottles. The result is a 7X, hyper-pure, alkaline-enriched bottle filling station that dispenses water that is ultra-hydrating and tastes incredible. To drive adoption, the water dispensing unit had to be visually inviting with functions that any user segment could use. Although this station was designed for mass appeal, it’s unique #brand #experience and memorable corporate identity would be a key success factor that could override entrenched end-user habits. The result is a branded experience that informs users and makes them feel good about drinking FloWater. After being installed in gyms, schools, work spaces, hotels and colleges, adoption has soared. Subsequently, fewer disposable bottles are being used wherever FloWater units are deployed. And, to our delight, FloWater
We #designed and #developed the first #sustainable electric #guitar, and the first guitar in decades to be awarded a #patent. A love for #music and a friendship with Rock-N-Roll Hall-of-Famer Dave Mason (Traffic) sparked the idea of reinventing the electric guitar for the first time in decades. The RKS team incubated #RKSGuitars in the year 2000 as an internal project, which quickly turned into a guitar company.

One of the ways we can give back to our community is by teaching our methodology to future business and design leaders. Over the years, P/A has established itself as a unique tool that allows stakeholders in an organization to align on strategic design decisions, and become part of the design process. This type of #inclusion is essential in the modern organization. We've are pleased to be able to share one recent class at UCLA with our LinkedIn community. Read and watch below to see how RKS teaches Psycho Aesthetics® to UCLA MBA students aspiring to create their own new products and innovations, and become the business leaders of tomorrow. https://rksdesign.com/rks-teaches-psycho-aesthetics-at-ucla-anderson/

In 2020 CSUN profiled RKS Founder Ravi Sawhney. Over forty years later, RKS remains a humble servant of human-centered design, focusing on our clients and how the products, brands, and services we help create move humans forward. “We’ve earned a level of humble respect,” Sawhney reflected. “We’re not big headed — the whole team is very focused on the work, focused on the client and the people they serve. It’s all about them, the people. If you love the work and the process — that’s why you get into this: the art of creation.”
This year we’ve put together a series of holiday gift guides so you can find the best product for your friends and family. Volume 1 is a guide of unique products all designed by RKS. Over the years we’ve produced hundreds of consumer products. Many are highly rated by hundreds or thousands of customers on Amazon, Home Depot, and other retailers across the world. We’ve chosen a few and created a list that includes items for different interests and budgets. We hope there’s something for everyone.
