Republic Services Charitable Foundation Finding Innovative Ways to Support Neighborhood Revitalization Amid Pandemic Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Republic Services is finding innovative ways to support neighborhood revitalization efforts across the country through its charitable foundation's National Neighborhood Promise (NNP) program. In February, the Republic Services Charitable Foundation announced $2 million in grants to a total of 24 projects in communities where the Company's employees live and work. Although volunteer workdays have been curtailed due to the pandemic, the foundation and its nonprofit partners are continuing to make a difference.
Republic Services Named 2020 Organics Recycler of the Year Republic Services was named 2020 Organics Recycler of the Year by the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA), which honors innovators and leaders in the industry who have made substantial contributions to recycling. The industry award recognizes Republic's leadership in diverting food and yard waste from landfills through food recovery, organics pre-processing and composting – contributing to the circular economy.
Republic Services Employees Named National Drivers of the Year, Operator of the Year 2020 Marks the Company's 17th Consecutive Year with Winners in the Industry's Top Safety Awards Republic Services announced that three employees were recognized with Driver of the Year and Operator of the Year awards for 2020 from the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA). Tommy Garcia of Phoenix was named National Commercial Driver of the Year; Tim Fields of Church Hill, Tenn., was named National Industrial Driver of the Year; and Ronald "Keith" Dunn of Sorrento, La., was named Operator of the Year.

Avoiding these obstacles helps your route become quicker and safer, with a huge emphasis on the latter. We prioritize safety above all else. More than half of our 36,000 employees work in large vehicles on the road. Like other drivers, our truck drivers negotiate tight alleyways, parking and a variety of other roadway challenges. Unlike other drivers, they face these obstacles in a 25-ton truck. One of their biggest challenges is avoiding drivers who are distracted. Our industry requires a relentless focus on safety and Republic is committed to partnerships that drive innovative solutions to keep our employees safe.
