We're thrilled to introduce you to Teresa, Scottish Rite's inpatient care coordinator, who has been recognized as one of DFW's Great 100 Nurses out of more than 50,000 nurses practicing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This recognition aims to highlight the crucial role that nurses play in patient care, research, leadership, education and community service. At the DFW Great 100 Nurses Celebration ceremony on April 18, Teresa was greeted with enthusiastic support from more than 20 Scottish Rite colleagues who cheered her on with noise-makers and cutouts of her likeness as she walked across the stage. Congratulations, Teresa! To learn more about Teresa's work at Scottish RIte, read this staff spotlight. http://spr.ly/6186OunUO

Scottish Rite is fortunate to have social work teams at our Dallas and Frisco campuses who work closely with patients and families to make sure they receive the support they need during treatment. Last year, our social workers had 11,773 patient encounters. We appreciate all the hard work, dedication and compassion our social workers put into their work each and every day.
We’re thankful to have amazing Child Life teams at our Dallas and Frisco campuses. Child life specialists have a vital role in pediatric health care, providing necessary coping strategies and normalization to patients undergoing treatment. Their efforts ensure that our patients are given the support they need while they are tackling aspects of care like injections, lab draws, MRIs, surgery, casting, staying in our inpatient unit and more. The Child Life team offers education, coping tools and comfort to patients of all ages using specialized techniques customized for each patient’s unique needs.
Athletic trainers are often confused with personal trainers, but fun fact - they're not the same! Our athletic trainers work closely with our physicians and advanced practice providers to provide our patients with the best care designed specifically for them. Our team is always hard at work, whether they are treating an injury or preventing one. We are honored to have such a great group of athletic trainers as an integral part of our team.
Some of our amazing nurses attended D Magazine's Excellence in Nursing Awards ceremony last week where Sarah Dronzek, R.N., was recognized with an award in the Direct Care category! Sarah is a registered nurse in our Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at our Dallas campus. In her role, Sarah cares for patients immediately post-surgery by monitoring their vital signs, levels of consciousness, surgical sites and surgical lines and drains. She also helps treat pain and manages any adverse effects her patients might develop from surgery and/or anesthesia. Sarah shares that she loves working with the patient population at Scottish Rite for Children and enjoys witnessing the amazing work our talented physicians perform to give children back their childhood. On winning her award, she says, “It truly means the world to me, and it validates the dedication and hard work that I’ve put into my career as a nurse.” We could not provide the exceptional level of care to our patients without the hard work and hearts of our skilled nurses. Congrats Sarah!
We love caring for all our patients, big and small! We caught Dr. Gill sharing a smile with his patient Elena during her visit for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). The two-month-old little girl is currently wearing a Pavlik harness to help correct her hip dysplasia by encouraging her hips to flex and rotate in the correct position for development. DDH is the most common orthopedic condition found in newborns, but in 90% of cases, the condition can be treated nonoperatively. Our hip experts at our Frisco campus and Dallas campus enjoy treating these adorable patients and watching them grow. ❤ Would you like to join these experts in helping to give children back their childhood? Recently, our sports medicine team attended the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine (PRiSM) society meeting in Denver, CO. Our team included sports medicine physicians, pediatric orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, researchers, psychologists and more. Many of our experts presented and led discussions about important care and treatment techniques for young athletes.
Both of our campuses include outstanding Orthotics & Prosthetics departments to provide quality, accessible care to our patients. Inside our Orthotics & Prosthetics areas, we have skilled certified prosthetists and orthotists who create custom-made devices for each individual patient. The team creates everything from back or hip braces to prosthetic legs, and they can even fabricate specialized prosthetic devices for specific tasks or needs. We’re glad to be able to assist our patients in their treatment plans and support them in doing what they love! Is Orthotics & Prosthetics your specialty? Scottish Rite for Children has a long-standing commitment to educating current and future leaders in the fields of pediatric orthopedics and more. We offer eight different fellowships or residencies for medical professionals looking to fine-tune skills for their chosen specialty. Our largest and oldest fellowship is the Dorothy & Bryant Edwards Fellowship in Orthopedics and Scoliosis, which has been training physicians in pediatric orthopedics since its launch in 1978. Accepting five fellows a year, more than 190 fellows have graduated from the program and have gone on to become experts in the field. Several former fellows have chosen to stay and practice at Scottish Rite, including Drs. Sucato, Podeszwa, Wimberly, Ho, Riccio, McIntosh, Ramo, Gill, Johnson, Hubbard and Morris. Now, many of these surgeons are educating the next group of physicians who participate in our fellowship, ensuring that our excellence in patient care is carried on here and throughout the country.
