Hello Birmingham! Today marks the opening of our largest UK Travel store at Birmingham Airport. At 6,000 square feet, our flagship one-stop-shop for travel essentials really takes our customer proposition to another level! With a bespoke design, inspired by local architecture, and a tailored product offering, this latest store offers customers everything they would expect from a WHSmith, as well as a broader product range, including health & beauty and tech zones, and coffee. What more could time-pressed travellers need as they head off on their journey? đ Andrew Harrison, Managing Director, UK Travel, commented: âMaking our customersâ journeys better is what weâre here to do, and this flagship store opening at Birmingham really does just that. Itâs a fantastic store and the team have worked tirelessly to perfect todayâs opening. I really couldnât be more proud of both the end result and also of the effort that has gone in to creating this bespoke format for our partner at Birmingham Airport and our customers.â A huge thank you and well done to all the teams at WHSmith, and our supplier partners who have been involved in the opening of this world-class store đ
Whatâs better than giving second-hand books a new lease of life? From today, our customers can do exactly this through our new Bookcycle scheme, in partnership with Zeercle. WHSmith Bookcycle allows reading enthusiasts to give their pre-loved books a second life in return for an eGift card to spend in any of our High Street stores. The vast majority of the books will find new homes through Zeercleâs resale channels which offer second-hand books at reduced prices, with any that are unsuitable for resale recycled responsibly to minimise their impact on the environment. The launch of this scheme supports a sustainable future for the books that we sell and continues our commitment to championing literacy and a love of reading across the communities we serve, with even more books made accessible and affordable for readers through WHSmith Bookcycle.

And remember, just because someone who you may not identify with culturally hasn't ventured into that territory doesn't mean you can't be the first and make a significant impact.â- Magdalene Arthur Assoc CIPD, People Partner, WHSmith Read the full interview in the link below, as our People Partner, Maggie Arthur, talks openly to BYP Network following our recent partnership with them to connect Black professionals and support us on our journey to build a truly inclusive workforce. https://bit.ly/3RRU3a5 #ForEveryJourneyTheresAWHSmith #diversityandinclusion #collaborate #careers
This yearâs Black History Month theme is âSaluting Our Sistersâ, which highlights black women who have shaped history, inspired change, and played a pivotal role in building community. As we mark Black History Month at WHSmith across our stores, online, and with all our people, we are focusing on recognising the invaluable contributions made by black women to society. In our bookshops, youâll see bespoke spaces highlighting a range of titles from inspirational black authors, actresses, and prominent figures. We also continue promoting the work of black writers online at www.whsmith.co.uk, celebrating inspiring and important accounts within our fiction and non-fiction ranges. And across our social channels we will be shining a spotlight on some trailblazing titles inspiring our future generations.
What a phenomenal event! Last week, over 300 of our High Street Cluster Managers, Area Managers and Support Centre colleagues joined together for our 2023 High Street Conference and Awards evening. It was a great day, receiving an update from a number of departments on the progress weâve made in the year and all the excitement we have to come as we head into Christmas! It also gave our suppliers the opportunity to showcase the best of their products for the key trading period ahead. And, as if that wasnât enough, there was a huge amount of success to celebrate, with our store teams, colleagues and suppliers recognised for their outstanding contributions, and a special recognition award to our Store of Excellence, Ilford, presented by our Chair, Annette Court. Congratulations to all our winners and nominees.
