We’re concerned that not enough is being done by energy companies to help consumers redeem their pre-payment vouchers. We worked with Anne McLaughlin MP to raise this in the House of Commons yesterday. Government and energy companies need to do all they can to ensure consumers can and do redeem their vouchers. #EnergySupport #PrepaymentVouchers #CostOfLiving

Hundreds of millions of pounds is being lost every year to bank transfer fraud and our research shows people can fall victim even when they're doing their best to protect themselves. The devastating emotional and financial consequences are often compounded as victims realise they face a lottery when it comes to getting their money bank, with some banks trying to blame them for their ordeal. If properly implemented, we believe that mandatory reimbursement is a crucial part of a wider strategy to tackle fraud and should lead to fairer and more consistent outcomes for scam victims. Given the current rate of APP (Authorised Push Payment) fraud, that cannot come soon enough.
A Bill that Which? has played a major role in has become law. The PSTI (Product Security, Telecommunications and Infrastructure) Act will play a big part in improving security standards in the UK. Paul Lester, technology editor, said 'Which? has been demonstrating the dangers posed by insecure smart products for nearly a decade. In recent years, our investigations have shown how both cheap, unbranded tech from marketplaces can open up a smart home to hackers, and how more familiar, big-brand tech can be hacked due to basic security flaws and poor supported. We’ve worked closely over the past four years with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) on the legislation. DCMS said that our research and investigations have been invaluable and instrumental in helping to shape the Bill.' Find out how this groundbreaking new law will improve security standards for consumers https://lnkd.in/eUV6tRuX
We recently hosted another event in our ‘Let’s Talk’ series, focusing on mental health and wellbeing. We were joined by panellists Rachel Kelly (bestselling writer and mental health campaigner, Dom and Ollie from the ‘Chaps Chat’ podcast and Sophia K B. (award-winning mental health campaigner). The event explored the stigma associated with mental health and the role that the pandemic has played. Our expert panel shared their experiences as well as their tips on how best to manage our mental health during these very difficult times. Katie Alpin, head of strategic insight at Which?, who hosted the event, said, ‘It was brilliant to host such an open and honest conversation exploring a range of different experiences around mental health. I particularly loved hearing the different ways our panellists look after themselves.’ Thank you to all the panellists who joined our Let’s Talk event. #mentalhealth #wellbeing
The government’s announcement of a new voluntary code is a positive step towards making apps more secure. The app market must now be monitored closely for improvements and to check whether tech firms are falling short in protecting consumers.
We're delighted to announce Cathy Webster will officially start her new role as People Director on 1st January, responsible for leading the organisation’s people management, diversity and inclusion work and colleague wellbeing initiatives. Cathy joined the company in 2019 as head of HR Business Partnering and L&D and has stood in as Interim People Director since July. She says ‘I’m hugely excited about stepping into this role and embracing the opportunities and challenges that will come with it. Which? has been the UK’s consumer champion for more than 60 years - but for that to continue to be possible we must also champion our colleagues. I’m delighted to have the chance to keep building on the work we are already doing to ensure that Which? is a diverse, inclusive and equal workplace, where people can thrive.’
'Which? has led the campaign to secure new laws that will protect access to cash, but they risk being undermined if that access isn't free of charge. MPs should back an important amendment to the Financial Services & Markets Bill today to ensure those who want to use cash aren't cut further adrift.' Rocio Concha Galguera, director of Policy and Advocacy is quoted on POLITICO today. #ProtectCash
