What is a Field Manager?

Field managers oversee, supervise, and evaluate employees in the field and customers' homes. They work in a range of industries, including heating systems, internet technology, Emergency Medical Services, the nonprofit sector, and others. They hire, train, and oversee representatives, supervising them on-site and directing their operations while they are in the field. They assign staff members territories, schedules, and appropriate supplies and equipment. They travel to sites and evaluate field representatives, generating reports that highlight the strengths and weaknesses of field representatives.

Field managers help employees improve and track their progress by creating plans and strategies while following through to ensure they have implemented agreed-upon tips and tools. They submit generated reports to human resources and provide training programs to field representatives to perform their duties effectively. They maintain field rules and responsibilities, ensure representatives adhere to the rules and respond to on-call tasks. Field managers schedule maintenance and repair for fleet vehicles and need a bachelor's degree in business management, administration, or related fields.

  • Manage work schedules and time cards for all field staff.
  • Assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority to the lead technicians.
  • Actively contribute to enhancement planning efforts for the team, district, and regional levels.
  • Report directly to the operations manager.
  • Ensure adherence to procedures, processes, policies and standards.

  • Responsible to direct employees in field operations for the respective Division.
  • Field work involves walking, bending, and climbing on steep and rough terrain.

Qualifications for Field Manager

  • Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in business, computer science, electronics, or engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • A natural leader and problem solver with a demonstrated sound work ethic.
  • Is confident and a professional at all times.
  • Experience with collaboration and critical thinking exercises.
  • Demonstrated time management and dexterity.
  • Comfortable processing terminations and providing technical assistance.
