Interviewed Mar 2011 in Culver City, CA (took 2 weeks)
I actually interviewed with Media Temple twice over the last year for two different positions. Last year I was brought in a few times by the Operations Manager for a marketing position. I was told that I would be a perfect fit within their organization and was pretty excited about the opportunity. I met with the person I would be working under as well and that interview went well. I was then told that they would get back to me within the next week or two. I waited, sent out follow-up emails and phone calls, but never heard back from them and considered that to be fairly unprofessional.
My second experience with Media Temple was a few months ago. The Operations Manager that I talked to in 2010 was now recruiting on his own and emailed me directly. He was kind enough to apologize for the mishap from the previous year and told me about another opportunity within Media Temple that he said I would be perfect for. I'm not one to hold a grudge and was somewhat flattered that he had remembered me. I welcomed the chance again. I went in and had a very good interview with their person in charge of Product for the site and walked out with a good feeling about the situation. I was told that I would hear back within a few weeks after they had completed their interviews.
I was contacted a couple weeks later by the recruiter (former Operations Manager) and he told me that there was good news and bad news. He said that I was the best candidate that they interviewed and that they wanted to bring me aboard. He continued to tell me that the bad news was that they now would not have budget for my position for another 60-90 days. Once again I was patient. I would reach out every few weeks to the recruiter for an update and he would tell me that they had not responded back to him. Finally 90 days passed and I asked for the final time. He proceeded to tell me that he reached out to the head of the department again yet to no avail. That person never once responded back to his emails or phone calls.
Not saying that they are a bad company but after two different incidents with this organization, I can not recommend them. Everyone seemed nice enough and whatnot, however they seem to have a serious lack or professionalism (in my case anyways) and common courtesy.
You know those t-shirts that people bring back from vacations? The ones that say "Someone went to _____ and all I got was this lousy t-shirt." Well at least they gave me a free Media Temple t-shirt on one of my stops so at least I didn't walk out of there completely empty-handed.
