The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Walmart (Bentonville, AR) in Sep 2009
Interview
I initially had a phone interview with the hiring Sr. Director. He requested that I do a fly back to a second interview and to meet the team. At Wal-Mart HQ in Bentonville, AR I had six 1:1 interviews with various team members including a VP. Following the interviews I met with a company recruiter who explained the benefits package and asked me a few questions about any possible reservations I may have about accepting a position at Wal-Mart. (One of there big concerns is Bentonville is a small town of about 20k people so some high caliber talent is immediately turned off by that).
The interview questions consisted mostly of questions of competency, career, and a couple behavior based questions specific to the job such as "How would you handle a financing situation with these variables... ?" Overall, each interviewer was very amicable and open to any questions I had about challenges of the position, the area, the culture, etc.
If you do end up heading down to Bentonville for an interview do not be turned off by the lack of grandeur of the "Home Office" for the largest retailer in the world. Wal-Mart's culture is serious about saving money and the no-nonsense quality of the building materials sends that message. Also, I would highly recommend the any of the BBQ sandwich joints in the area. Apparently, they take there BBQ very seriously in that part of the country and the food quality shows. Good stuff!
