Pros

Job security. Good honest product. GREAT operations teams.

Cons

Where can I start? First off the bat, last year the business development leadership changed the sales plan mid year because the US sales team made too much money in commission in Q2. They flat out said “your sales plan has changed due to ‘market changes due to COVD’ and took $20-30k in commission right out of the pockets of their sales force, just because they didn’t want to pay it. Meanwhile, the stock price soared. Which is great for all of leadership. So much that they flaunted it on our annual sales call making a HORRIBLE rap video saying “we are UPS, YOU are UPS!” with the executives RAPPING being THRILLED with how well their stock is doing. Meanwhile they are presenting their happiness and stock wealth to a group of people who saw a 10% job cut, slashed commissions and demoted my manager. Needless to say, I GLADLY left UPS business development and doubled my salary as a Product Manager. UPS as a company is solid. Their operations are run by an INCREDIBLE group of men and women that deserve every dollar they make and more. UPS business development and executive leadership can suck a fart. I am so happy I left, I would never suggest anyone to be an Account Executive unless you really need $60k base salary and absolutely no control over your commission, and love spending 75% of your day being yelled at by customers because the general customer service line is hysterically broken.

Advice to Management

Don’t cut commission half way your sales year and then expect your sales force to see that as motivation. Actually, change the entire commission structure because no sales person has control over plan and it does not align with performance at all. Change it to 80% account management salary and 20% commission because AE’s in UPS are actually Customer Service Representatives. Our CX is so bad with claims, tracking, technical service it makes every AE have to make up for it. Which is fine, but just pay as such. Reward AEs who maintain revenues and relationships. Don’t feed them lies about Challenger Sales Model like UPS has a complex software sales cycle . The sales cycle in shipping is not nearly that complicated and trying to sell 3rd party software as “UPS solutions” is more in the interest of any customer and they don’t get the message AT ALL when we are trying to position other companies half assed software and say it’s a part of UPS solutions suite. We don’t know how the software works, we don’t even have a direct contact to support it and simply NO ONE CARES about it. Honestly, I wish management would just stop faking it that they their AEs futures in mind. They don’t. The salary is low, the customer service requirement is high and there is nowhere to move up in the company. That’s why I left. And management is going to see a LOT more young people leaving this company in sales because it was built to be an old boys club, then it changed to be an executive stock holders club and the culture is fractured. I would never suggest being a sales executive at UPS. You would be better off selling software with literally any other company. P

Pros

Plenty of leads, much room for growth to other positions, unlimited commission potential, great folks, updated systems for easier work flow, potential to work from home

Cons

A lot of it currently is remote, less office culture these days (unless that's a pro for you), sifting through accounts and opportunities in order to get to the business (not always a fan!),

Advice to Management

Management is great and always keeping up yet remaining loyal to UPS values from Jim Casey and others. Keep on doing that, please.
