Avoid EDP Unless You Have No Better Option

      Data engineer

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Non-existent, at least not for 3_YOE.

      Cons

      1. Toxic Work Environment In my experience, the culture within EDP is heavily influenced by favoritism and internal politics. Recognition does not always align with effort or capability. Unrealistic deadlines are quite common, often without proper consideration of feasibility. 2. Poor Work-Life Balance Work-life balance is a major concern. Late-night calls are frequent and often treated as normal. There is limited regard for personal time, especially when coordinating with onshore teams, which can gradually lead to burnout. 3. Product-Based Only in Name Although the company presents itself as product-based, the way EDP operates does not reflect standard product engineering practices: * Lack of consistent coding standards * Limited or inconsistent code reviews * Minimal emphasis on structured testing or QA * Strong focus on pushing changes to production quickly This makes the overall engineering environment feel unstructured. Additionally, in my observation, onshore stakeholders tend to have significant influence over decisions. Requests are often accepted without much pushback, and meetings are scheduled based on onshore availability, sometimes outside reasonable IST working hours. There appears to be limited effort from leadership to address this imbalance. 4. Limited Growth for Experienced Professionals During the interview process, there is noticeable emphasis on office facilities rather than meaningful discussions around role expectations, learning opportunities, or career growth. From my experience, the role offers limited opportunities to build new skills and may not add significant value to your long-term career progression. 5. Overhyped Perks Perks like free food are highlighted, but the quality is average and does not meaningfully offset the overall work environment. Final Verdict This organization may work for freshers looking to get started, but for experienced professionals, especially in EDP, it may lead to high stress with limited growth opportunities. It’s worth carefully evaluating other options before making a decision.

It Depends on Your Store Manager

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Many of the customers are awesome, the job is fairly easy, and if you are working for a good manager, you'll have a good experience. There's no better place to learn the retail business, and franchise ownership can be the ultimate promotion if that's what you're working for. It's not hard to learn how to run a store. You'll need integrity, kindness, and work ethic. They will teach you everything else.

      Cons

They sent a new manager who had zero experience as so much as a cashier. Had never been in retail. On her first day without my old boss, a co-worker, who I had literally caught smoking crack in the store several months prior, came in and began photographing the store and telling me the new manager told her to start documenting my performance. By this time, I had been with franchises or corporate in some capacity for well over a decade, been consistently recognized, and managed multiple stores myself. I quit right then and there. It was a corporate store. Long way to say the cons of this company is if you get a horrendous manager, you'll have a horrendous professional life. Of course, the opposite is also true. The new boss couldn't run a store, but they checked all the boxes.

      Pros

      Nice office space. Decent pay.

      Cons

The goal setting and performance review process is a joke. Management can't keep up with your accomplishments, so if you don't "toot your own horn" then you don't get recognized. They will make sure to document every single time you are not in the office (even if you just leave an hour early) and throw it back in your face.

      Pros

decent colleagues and good store boss and a fair amount of friendly regular customers in the morning

      Cons

It's the rough part of town so as night shift you have to deal with a lot of drunks and drug addicts. You're pretty much always alone except for a few hours on the weekend so you never really get to take a break. The head boss is very easy to offend unless you love football. There are a lot of other jobs that pay the same but you have to work less hard and with less stress, better off looking for work in supermarket if you want to work in retail.

      Pros

      Cons

      - had to get up really early for my shift - no lunch break even though I worked 8 hour shifts - hard to use the toilet if you are working alone
