What is the hiring process like at ALDI?

      ALDI reviews

Misleading and Toxic Culture-Proceed with Caution

      Business analyst
      Former employee
      Saint Marys, New South Wales
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Work from Home arrangement and Policy

      Cons

My time at ALDI was unfortunately the most disappointing experience of my career. The work environment was toxic, with a culture that seemed to tolerate, if not encourage, bullying and antagonizing. Management often appeared complicit, with little accountability or support. One of the most concerning aspects was the misleading recruitment process. Roles advertised as permanent were, in reality, short-term contracts disguised with a so-called “3-month probation” period. This clause is emphasized during onboarding and assessments, despite having no legal enforceability in Australia. It’s used as a loophole to cycle through employees without offering job security. In my case, I was led to believe I was hired for a permanent role, only to discover that the position was essentially a six-month contract. The same role continues to be advertised, raising questions about the legitimacy of the hiring process and potential misuse of budget allocations between contract and permanent roles. It’s disheartening to see such practices in a company of this size. My advice to prospective employees: don’t immediately decline other offers or cancel interviews. If you do accept a role at ALDI, give yourself a week to assess the environment before committing fully.

      Pros

I worked on a great team at ALDI and was able to learn a lot in my time here.

      Cons

Unfortunately, while this internship was presented as a stepping stone to full-time, the department I was in went on a hiring freeze halfway through the summer and did not hire any of the interns from our department. This was unfortunate as several of us had graduated college that spring and looked forward to the full-time roles that had been discussed during interview and onboarding.

Extremely toxic company, unfair employee treatment - RUN!

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Thinking hard to add here anything..

      Cons

Super toxic environment and blame culture. "The door is always open" exists only on paper. When it comes to actual actions on management side, nothing changes. Speaking up and being honest can feel like a career-ending move. Salary is above the market, benefits used to be great but the company keeps cutting them (eg. no more free lunch and snack options, no free language courses etc). Managers in general have zero people management skills. Gaslighting and textbook-like micromanagement, unfair employee treatment, favoritism are part of every day life. People are burning out and leaving the manager(s), still this is a not a clear enough sign to their superiors that something is definitely wrong in the team and that things need to be changed. This happens also because toxicity recreates itself within the company: directors and top management have similar attitude and keep hiring similar dilettante managers. Directions are changing every week if not more often, it feels there is no strategy.
