What is the hiring process like at AbbVie?

      Pros

Abbvie interview process is easy and quick

      Cons

Train your employees instead of throwing them in deep waters

Good benefits, alright salary, awful employee support and retention

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good benefits with some very knowledgeable and experienced employees. Decent PTO and sick time with a wide arrange of positions available. CEO seems to be running the company in a good direction.

      Cons

Little to no upward growth unless you're willing to switch teams and departments every couple of years or constantly kiss up to management. This lack of upward growth causes a pretty high turnover rate with most employees working 3-5 years before leaving (similar to the Amazon dilemma). HR is terrible at supporting employees and addressing complaints. HR will always protect management even if provided with documented proof of mismanagement or falsified performance reviews. Micromanagement is rampant and despite "agility" being a primary company-wide metric to improve, management consistently introduces more red tape and resists new ideas for improved workflow efficiency. Too many meetings consist of planning with no action being done. Managers that are new to leadership positions receive very little training, leading to many poorly run teams and contributing to high turnover rate. Salary is not as competitive as other companies unless you aggressively negotiate during hiring process. PIPs are implemented as a way to push out current employees for cause, not as a genuine attempt to improve employee performance.

      Cons

Steep learning curve Very fast-paced Job duties may occasionally change to adapt to AbbVie's changing needs Interview process is quite lengthy

Bloated organization with lack of innovation

      Pros

      Benefits, safe location, competitive pay

      Cons

HR process is a mess with a terrible onboarding experience. There are too many people doing similar jobs so there is a lack of accountability and ability to complete work strategically and quickly (too many layers/micromanagement). Despite being a young company, "this is how we have always done it" is always tossed around, and most of the executives are legacy Abbott leaders so there is a lack of new thinking. It's a hypocritical culture of encouraging employees to provide ideas to then turn around and ignore/punish those who think differently.

Insights into AbbVie: Navigating the Pros and Cons of Employment

      Pharmaceuticals sales - specialty representative
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Working at AbbVie offers several advantages, such as access to top-tier Immunology and Rheumatology products with preferred coverage. AbbVie also prioritizes providing ample resources and support to its employees, customers, and patients, fostering a supportive and conducive environment for all stakeholders.

      Cons

AbbVie is grappling with recent challenges, particularly revolving around a notable turnover in key leadership positions. Within the past year, new leaders, including the President of Immunology, Vice President of Rheumatology, and Sales Director of Rheumatology, have assumed their roles. This influx of new leadership has fostered a micromanagement culture and destabilized the organization's structure. Despite AbbVie's esteemed reputation, the company has consistently fallen short of its Rhuematology sales targets for consecutive quarters. Regrettably, this has led to an unfair distribution of blame, with sales representatives shouldering unwarranted responsibility. The elimination of profit-sharing programs, coupled with the absence of an employee stock purchase program, has resulted in significant pay cuts for sales representatives, further exacerbating employee dissatisfaction. Moreover, the flawed incentive compensation structure, which disproportionately emphasizes territory history over growth potential, has failed to deliver on promises of high earnings. In addition to these internal challenges, AbbVie is grappling with the aftermath of HUMIRA's loss of exclusivity. This has prompted the company to urgently position its newer products as superior alternatives for rheumatoid arthritis patients who have ceased HUMIRA treatment. This strategic pivot emphasizes the pressing need for AbbVie to adapt swiftly to evolving market dynamics and effectively promote its newer offerings to maintain its competitive edge in the industry.

      Cons

talent acquisition team did not know the meaning of professionalism, simply just ghosted my emails when I tried to verify their interview process. and the interviewers, whom I felt like scamming the job opportunities, did want to turn on their cameras or neither had LinkedIn.

      Good company, but department

      Senior scientist
      Former employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great healthcare benefits, salary, and macro level commitment to the employees.

      Cons

I was in PRD and my particular group was rife with abuse. There was little attempt to fix any of the problems by HR. It seemed like this was going on for years prior to my hiring and continued throughout my time there. The head of my department was promoted shortly after I left. The group produced great results, but the culture was terrible. Misaligned values in people, favoring egos above all.
