How are career development opportunities at AstraZeneca?

Good company to work for, but limited progression in APAC

      Pros

Good working environment, team atmosphere is nice, but since most of the good opportunities are parked under europe and america teams, limited progression opportunity for APAC, company tends to take europe opinions more seriously, despite APAC being the more performing team

      Cons

      Less opportunity in asia team

      Cons

My experience with AZ Chennai has been deeply disappointing due to several concerning issues in management and workplace culture. The middle management operates in a highly political and cutthroat manner, with little to no recognition for genuine effort or talent. Those who engage in favoritism or "buttering up" seem to thrive, while others face abrupt role eliminations without proper warning or justification. The HR department has also failed to uphold basic professionalism and ethics, which is deeply disheartening. It’s unfortunate to see a lack of accountability, as HR seems more focused on playing internal games rather than addressing employee concerns or fostering a healthy work environment. There also appears to be a bias in leadership, particularly favoring individuals from specific backgrounds, which affects opportunities for others regardless of their skill or knowledge. Under the leadership of Siva, the Center Head, and Anuradha in HR, the environment at AZ Chennai feels less like a professional workplace and more like a personal network for select individuals. Employees are often treated poorly, akin to household help rather than valued professionals. It’s troubling to see that while recruitment is ongoing, layoffs are being executed simultaneously without a clear or fair process. The company also does not seem to encourage upskilling or learning opportunities for employees, making it a poor choice for those who want to grow in their careers. Until there is a significant change in leadership and culture, AZ Chennai will continue to be a challenging and unappealing place to work. I hope senior management takes these concerns seriously and addresses these systemic issues for the betterment of the employees and the organization as a whole.

      Pros

Great company to work for. The culture is nice, peers are kind and there is decent growth opportunity. They pay well and benefits are also notable.

      Cons

The CRA role is atrocious. Just be ready for no work/life balance, and unreasonable expectations. Also, if you're ever placed on any coaching or performance improvement plans, start looking for a new job immediately.

      Pros

Very well structured organisation with clear roles and responsibilities. Excellent culture in the workplace and decent management. Overall salary package is great across the company, and there’s plenty of opportunity and support for career progression.

      Cons

Lots of red tape, but partly due to the pharmaceutical industry. Also, due to the size of the organisation, it can be quite easy for people who don’t pull their weight to hide.
