What is paid time off like at Banana Republic?

Pros

Great employee discount, good benefits, and good amount of paid time off. Company gives you 5 hours of paid time to volunteer with a non-profit/charity of your choice.

Cons

As a salaried leader you are expected to work more than your 40 hours. There isn't any way to get the work done otherwise. Upper leadership does nothing to help you hire or staff leadership in stores. Worked 18 days straight, several of which were 10-12 hours days. Finally had some relief from other stores only to find out those visitng leaders were reporting back to senior leadership the shortcomings of a GM who was getting burned out. Volunteering and giving back to the community is great but Gap Inc makes it feel so forced that no one wants to give back. Adopt a family and back to school drives are unreasonable considering you haven't increased your starting rate of pay in over 5 years. Associates can barely afford to pay for their schooling but you expect them to buy things as donations.

Advice to Management

Care about your people. Actively work to help hire and staff stores. Pay associates more money. Company has changed drastically in the past 2 years and the demand on associates has increased without an increase in pay. Appearance policy changed to all black and now you can't even wear the clothes you sell, makes it harder to show the proudct to customers and be bought into it. I stopped shopping there once the dress code changed.

Great employee discount, good benefits, and good amount of paid time off.

Does Banana Republic offer relocation assistance?

Pros

Diverse, people focused and open minded corporate culture. Family style work environment. Great discount (50% off at Gap, BR, Old Navy and Athleta) and strong benefits package. (Part Timers are eligible for insurance after a year, by the way!) Not to mention the cute clothes! Also, if you work hard and show interest, you will learn, become multi faceted and move up quickly. They want to see you grow!

Cons

Market based pay rate. They need to alter that and start everyone, no matter what location, at an above livable wage. In my experience, Gap Inc has loyal, long term field staff (some of my employees have been with the company for 20+ years!), so keep them loyal and make our new people loyal by giving them above average starting pay! Y’all did it 10 years ago, but things have changed. Time to raise the starting wage again!

Advice to Management

Keep focusing on your people. The company does well, for the most part, and I truly believe their heart is there. They just need to keep listening and making the changes employees need and want when possible.

Great discount (50% off at Gap, BR, Old Navy and Athleta) and strong benefits package.

Does Banana Republic offer family leave?

Pros

Gap Inc. offers excellent opportunities for learning the sales process, the ins and outs of a business, the retail sector, and acquiring management experience where you really feel like you own the business. Compensation is decent, for the level of responsibility/supervision required over others. Benefits are great: 4 weeks of PTO annually, plus 6 paid Holidays. Paid bereavement and jury duty leave. There is a company matched 401k plan, plus HSA and employee stock purchase plans available. Medical, dental, vision offered at a substantial discount. A free life insurance policy, and AD&D at a nominal cost.

Cons

It's very difficult to get a meaningful raise once you're in. You're likely to find yourself in a position where you feel like you've worked your butt off and really made sizable improvements to processes and efficiencies at your store, to only be met with a basic cost of living increase at the end of the year.

Advice to Management

Hire and retain GMs that are willing to provide the best possible experience for the employees rather than just customers. The best bosses I've ever had have had great active listening skills, and if they didn't know the answer to your questions - they took it upon themselves to find our the answers for you and follow up. On the other side of the coin, the worst would simply brush you off/and or tell you to go find it yourself. If your people are happy, the team is happy, and that's what ultimately drives results. You can't force or hope to inspire them otherwise, no matter how hard you try.

Paid bereavement and jury duty leave.

Company News
Banana Republic is inviting customers to discover a collection of elevated, elegant styles curated specially for a momentous day. The brand’s digitally-led Weddings & Events shop went live in May, outfitting customers for a variety of occasions from engagement party to honeymoon, and wedding guest, too. Although the brand has featured occasion shops in the past, this is the first dedicated Weddings & Events shop Banana Republic has offered in years. Why now? Jessica Magaro, Head of Digital for the brand, says there is a “massive” macrotrend and resurgence of events this year—weddings, especially, are forecasted to hit a 40-year high, with more than 2.6 million weddings expected.
