Pros
- The office is pretty (but there are no snacks, only a handful of fruits that are gone in 10-20 minutes)
- Ability to work from home is nice
- All the software is surprisingly up to date, I mean latest versions
Cons
- Being a sole contractor in my department is awful. I very feel isolated and left out all the time.
- No access to more than half the internal site, no benefits, no PTO, etc, and all while everyone else enjoys it and asks you about it and you don’t have it.
- Inconsistent pay (had a few weeks missed, although they were eventually paid, just later)
- No pay over so called company holidays (when Ciena pays its employees but you being a contractor get nothing, which also reduces the pay for stat holidays because of those “missed” days)
- No onboarding info, no training
- No opportunities to be hired internally, while they seemingly hire
- The laptop they gave me had to have everything installed. When I started working here, I ended up spending over a month to get all the software I needed for work, and management instead of getting involved just wished me luck
- Can’t participate in anything, like internal activities
- Their diversity initiatives are incredibly performative, during almost a year that I’m here there has been a lot of talk and presentations, but no actions. Higher and upper management is still 100% all white men. You can start seeing POC and women closer to mid and lower management
- I find it ridiculous that they are proud of getting a bunch of donations from average employees (even if for good causes) that doesn’t even amount to a third of CEO’s pay. Maybe the CEO could chip in some of his incredible several million bucks bonus instead of asking for donations from people who earn waaaaay less than him. How much did he donate, eh?
