      Pros

      - Being your own boss and picking your own schedule. You can start and end at any point of the day! - Getting paid instantly after each delivery. - They sometimes offer live promotions such as an additional $2 per delivery.

      Cons

Ah yes, when thinking of the cons there seems to be a lot more of these than pros, unfortunately. Base pay from DoorDash is usually $2 per delivery, so you are very reliant on tips. With where I live, in a 2 college town, they tip horrible. Usually $1-$2 at most. A lot of wear and tear on your vehicle, you're on your own with repairs. The GPS is not always accurate, it has told me the house is on the left when it was actually on the right, and it's hard knowing the truth when it's dark out and you're unfamiliar with the location. The chat support unit is a joke. Just today I contacted them because I accidentally confirmed picking up an order when I realized they gave me the wrong name. So I went back into the restaurant and while I was waiting for them to make my customers order (apparently it was given to wrong delivery driver) I had contacted chat support and asked them to not let this huge time delivery gap/delay to affect my "on-time" ratings. Long story short, they ended up canceling the order altogether, even though I had just finally received the order. I let them know I had my customers order and that this was absolute miscommunication, I wasn't asking them to cancel it, and their response was that I needed to either discard the order or bring it back to the restaurant, and that if I still delivered it, I wouldn't be paid for it. It was bogus. Again, their GPS is horrible. Just need to reemphasize, I had an order that was to be delivered literally only a mile away from the restaurant, but the gps had me go out 13 miles, and stopped in the middle of the road, no house around. It was wild and I was so apologetic with the customer. It seems silly to blame it on the GPS but it was seriously something I could not make up, it was embarrassing. AND it's gas wasted - you don't get paid for your gas, that's on you. Delivering at night when the lobby at fast food restaurants is closed, I've sat in the Drive-Thru for over 35 minutes before, to receive $6.50 for an order. Not worth the time or patience. Especially when the customer becomes irate wondering why you're taking so long! I've lost cell service for a lot of deliveries where I live, so you have to contact chat support for them to manually complete your delivery, which they contact the customer to verify, and that to me is an inconvenience and embarrassing. Also, not every customer is truthful, thankfully I haven't experienced this but I've listened to other deliverers who have stated they were very thorough with their communication and delivery to a customer, but then the customer would go ahead and say they didn't receive their order, so they could receive a refund. And WHO is effected by that? The deliverer.

They ran too many campaigns to get new dashers. Myy area for instance is saturated and you have to be really savvy to even get yourself scheduled. The only way to dash anytime is to become a"top dasher" And that requires several things one of which that your acceptance rate has to be 70% or greater. So top dashers will take ridiculous order. Let me clarify. A ridiculous order would be a person who tips a dollar or who takes nothing and is 6 to 12 mi away. (To be very simple about it You should never take an order that the miles are greater than the dollar amount you are going to receive). But the majority of good dashers who have been around awhile, also know But the more of these orders that are filled the more often these people call back. They tell their friends "why tip the driver when some dumb dasher will deliver it for free?" And actually they're right. Top dashers will deliver these ridiculous orders and lose money doing it just so they can "dash anytime". That's literally the only perk of being a top dasher now. There used to be more but now that's it. It hurts the rest of the drivers who dash smart, because we sign on and we are inundated with these stupid orders that we would lose money on to take. Turn down three in a row, and you'll be lucky to get another order that shift. The forums for drivers are full of top dashers trying to defend why they take the orders that make no sense. However, more often than not,I will go back to the same forum some time later and that same "top dasher"Will be so upset because they've been deactivated. Why? Because one of these lovely dollar tippers or $0 tippers, caught them not taking a picture, and reported that they did not get their food. Door dash normally always signs at the customer on this. It is an automatic deactivation most of the time and it is also a no appeal deactivation. And so they are paid back for their loyalty (a stupid as it was to give it in the first place) by being deactivated. And for an independent contractor deactivated equals fired. Below tippers or no tippers are also the ones that complain the most, Text you throughout your dash wanting more things, live in dangerous areas, or in my case, since I live in a rural area, they do things like not turning on a light (And it is pitch Black in the countryside at night where you can't see your hand in front of your face) And almost all of them have dogs. Some of them won't put them up. It is taken our quality of customer and taking them from being premium to ....well, tacky cheap and dishonest. On the forums, experienced dashers try to explain to the new dashers and the top dashers that if they would just stop taking these orders these people would stop calling. In busy areas in cities for instance, these kinds of orders aren't thought twice about and restaurants end up with a huge pile of food at night that never got delivered. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN! And no I'm certainly not talking about wasting food (1 In the cities it's usually given to the shelters etc) I'm talking about those people that aren't willing to pay the drivers don't need to get their orders delivered. Let them walk. Let them wish.. let them go hungry for all I care.. DoorDash is a premium service. We are not meals on Wheels. But because of the top dasher program (And that's Doordash fault) Our quality of customer has just gone way down. The only reason doordash has the top dasher program is because for every order that comes in DoorDash and the restaurant both receive the same fee. 80 to 90% of what I make is tips.. DoorDash doesn't care whether I'm tipped or not. I mean it's an algorithm data service for Christ sakes they don't care about anything really... And the only way to get those no tip low tip orders that are ridiculous delivered was to implement some kind of program that made these foolish dashers feel like they were getting something on top of that or make it worth their while to deliver these. There used to be more perks that went along with it. The only one left is that you can "dash anytime". Well just because you can dash anytime doesn't mean it's busy. Especially in a far out semi rural area such as ours. But some of these new dashers who don't do this for a living, and do it for side money and Mom and Dad's car etc, I don't care how many miles they put on their car or how much wear and tear. They see in order they take it and they go. And it's just ..the whole thing is just a mess And briefly the other area which George Ash really screwed up was advertising for dashers like crazy... Everywhere. They offered The equivalent of sign on bonuses and they also offered referral bonuses to current dashers. The result is that the market is saturated with us. If I don't get on that app it just the right time and get myself scheduled? I'm not going to be dashing that night.
