What is health insurance like at GameStop?

Pros

Insurance options are not great, but exist for part time. Running a store alone allows for independence.

Cons

Low pay, no negotiation given. The regular health insurance covers literally nothing beyond one yearly non problem exam -without a 5k deductible. Run an entire store alone, no breaks, and juggle 5 tasks at once. Less than 30 hours a week. Some managers bend the rules too much for bad customers who are scammers, some employees are lazy, don’t care, or should be fired for bad behavior, but managers don’t want to have to hire someone else. This job relies on college students living at home with parents.

Advice to Management

$9 is not enough for someone to run an entire store alone. We can’t get decent workers because everywhere else pays more for less work. We make one dollar more than our entry level employees that don’t do much. The recent “raises” didn’t account for past merit raises (10 cents or so a year), which means that newly promoted entry level employees will make the same exact amount that someone who has been there for 5 years gets. Some local DL/RL wants us to bend the rules and not test systems when we’re busy, take bad returns that clearly break the rules for some and not others, or promise to replace controllers or systems that are not supposed to be covered under the warranty or protection, just to get the sale. You can’t pay people nearly entry level for management work and expect them to stay, resulting in high turnover.

Does GameStop offer tuition reimbursement?

Pros

Great customers, passionate co-workers, working with products you love, decent benefits, tuition reimbursement

Cons

Constant payroll cuts, priority focuses change quarterly, lack of vision, disconnect between field leadership and corporate, poor communication

Advice to Management

Hold District and Regional managers to a higher standard, commit to the changes you promise (for example, short term gain focuses such as cell phone and tablet trade), provide more opportunities for training and development, stop allowing mid-week payroll cuts and expecting skeleton crews to complete the myriad of (increasing) operational tasks while providing high-tier guest service.

Does GameStop offer unlimited time off?

Pros

-The employee discount (which isn't even that great) PTO if you are an assistant manager or manager (but they barely let you use it)

Cons

-They don't care about employees at all -No incentives for anything -They require you to up-sell all of the time but literally give you no reason to push anything except except to keep your job -They will find any way to get rid of you if you're one of the higher paid employees -It's retail, so be prepared to work every and all hours except literally only Christmas day -Barely any room to move up, and the pay raises are scarce (with horrible minimum starting wages to begin with.

Advice to Management

Prepare to not exist anymore, because the way this company is functioning at this point, it's obvious it's in a downward spiral. Start treating your employees like they're more than another useless body, and you might find a way to stick around past the next five years.
