What are perks and other benefits like at Georgia-Pacific?
Pros
Good pay, on-site at the mills was great for face to face with end users, culture was market based management- fantastic concept (see con) coworkers are will to go above and beyond. Lots of growth and opportunity. In my experience I was promoted from procurement specialist to buyer a little under 3 months ( see con). Rotations shifts. Great company perks, great benefits, nice 401k. If you are really reading please note no company is perfect and it depends heavily on you and your work ethic. It is good for getting your feet wet and for learning the ropes. To answer the question on if you would like it long term it honest depends on what want to give up.
Cons
Market based management is concentrated from headquarters once you get to the mills it disappears, long hours and low work life balance, promotion did not come with a pay increase. The training was odd I learned about procedures not related to my jobs and lacked job specific training. I was assigned a mentor at another mill but he was located in California. Buyers and managers are on call almost 24/7 I received a call at 3 am on Sunday to overnight goods. Really high turnover for buyers. Some people are promoted faster than they can learn their roles- and it can be seen. In terms of management it honestly depends on your manager- there are fantastic ones and also some of the worst ones I have ever seen. Good luck:)
