      Ups and Downs

      Wine steward

      Business Outlook

      Pros

-The company has strong values and they do care about partners; but whether or not those values trickle down from corporate to your individual store can be a gamble. Store leaders or MICs who don’t care can taint the entire work experience, and negligence on their end is rarely addressed unless illegal. There’s a store in the woodlands where a Connection’s department manager takes off every weekend and holiday and does absolutely the bare minimum, has scared off all lead positions in his department, and continues to do so today without reprimand. And there are managers today who embolden and empower their employees with ardor and respect endlessly… store choice has a big impact on experience -overall work culture is great with great benefits and pay -room for growth is great -if you’re good with people , being recognized for efforts is easy and feels good - interdepartmental cohesion can be great or it can be impossible depending on your overall management team

      Cons

-Corporate for beer and wine does very little to help with education or innovation ; on our department page as an education tool there are sloppily thrown together PowerPoints that are dated. I emailed corporate showing initiative and drive to learn and i was redirected back to the power points -the wine department can be a big responsibility and i think many times leaders don’t understand how much labor it takes and we can be treated like the red headed step child of the departments -leadership never takes a day to walk in my shoes and thus never knows what happens on a business personal level what i deal with

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Flexible schedule, great benefits, amazing people, and good pay.

      Cons

      Customers can be rude sometimes.

Good benefits overshadowed by low morale and poor management

      Digital product manager
      Former employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good benefits, attempts at employee resource groups and hybrid work policy.

      Cons

The digital org has grown too quickly and focused on scale rather than quality. Management does not lead, but trickles down direct asks from leadership, leaving those who are responsible for output to languish in strategic ambiguity, no concrete goals to work toward, and unanswered calls for more support and team resources despite the company making record profits, Morale among peers is generally low but laughed off because it's supposedly a great place to work.

      Pros

Benefits for fulltime employees and 10% employee discount.

      Cons

If you don't have an open availability, it's harder to become fulltime partner.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Flexible with hours, Good management, good benefits, breaks, good pay.

      Cons

Managers were often shuffled around to other stores leading to some disorganization and confusion at times, inconsistencies at times when needing to know what needs to be done and a few instances of spending hours on a project only for another manager telling me to do it completely differently.

      Current employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

At a corporate level, the company really does try to make decisions and set up systems that make it more likely for the employee experience to be good downstream. Some other things are really good benefits for being retail and a 10% discount on HEB branded items. During holidays, it increases to 25%. You get a free turkey every Thanksgiving. Overall, job security is good here. As a part-timer you can get insurance and some other benefits if you work from one October to the next year's October. Each store has its own micro-culture which can range from progressive to good-ol-boy. This can be positive or negative. Once you are hired, I believe you can transfer to another position or store within a few months if you aren't satisfied.

      Cons

Bad behavior (i.e. the -isms and other things like gaslighting, blame shifting, etc...) is only addressed when it is visible, unignorable and liable to cause a legal situation. A lot of misery can occur below that threshold with many investigations and reports being filed without anyone being held responsible. I have also had one manager perpetuate the incorrect idea that we are not allowed to talk about our pay. By company rules, we cannot talk about our pay on the clock. But they cannot prevent you from talking about it once you clock out. Lastly, and this is characteristic of our labor market at large, management normalizes the idea of using up your body like an eraser in exchange for a paycheck with very little consideration for ergonomics and prevention of fatigue and strain injuries.

      Cake decorator
      Former employee

      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - HEB offers a lot of benefits including discounts on their products and a higher discount during the holidays

      Cons

      - Management really makes or breaks the experience, a bad manager who doesn’t cooperate with their partners will often times not be moved despite complaints.

      Pros

Nice pay, professional environment, good benefits and discount is nice

      Cons

Sometimes shifts and scheduling are very bipolar, working 12am to 8:30pm and immediately after that working a 5am to 1:30pm shift isn't fun
