Pros
The company provides flexible scheduling, generally supporting a healthy work-life balance. Leaders have the opportunity to drive their own professional development through experience-based learning. The benefits package is competitive, and the role offers significant autonomy in team management, fostering both leadership and decision-making skills. Additionally, IKEA’s core values serve as a strong foundation for leadership development, and both the company and this location actively promote a culture of diversity and inclusion.
Cons
One of the main challenges in this role is that personal and professional growth heavily depends on self-motivation. Without being proactive in managing your own development, it is easy to stagnate or lack accountability. In my experience, direct guidance from managers has been minimal, requiring me to take the initiative in not only developing myself but also leading my team toward achieving our goals—often without clear communication or transparency from upper management.
Although IKEA as a company emphasizes transparency and the 'leadership by all' mindset, this particular location struggles to implement those values effectively on the floor. While the job's benefits and autonomy could make this a 4-5 star experience, the lack of strong leadership from managers and directors leaves room for improvement. The Team Leader position does offer valuable experience for career growth, but success in this role requires continuous self-advocacy. Being recognized as a high-performing employee is not enough—without direct mentorship, structured development, and critical feedback, growth opportunities can be limited.
