What are perks and other benefits like at L.L. Bean?

The company culture and benefits are great and most employees spend a lot of their career there, I felt a strong sense of community with my fellow interns and team. The management of my team was great and there was a real emphasis on work-life balance.

They use a lot of legacy systems, and aren't on the cutting edge with their tech stack.

Some benefits are great and compensate for the salary

The people and culture are what keep you here. Everybody is polite and has a common shared love for spending time outside. The benefits including the onsite gym and discounted employee store are great.

There is extremely little room for growth. There are people who have been here for 5+ years and are still Analysts (Sr, Lead Analyst but no direct reports). The pay is not competitive and lately younger employee's have been leaving at a higher rate. I strongly believe that if you stay for too long, it is difficult to adjust courses because your resume will show little to no growth after all these years and that is what traps employees from changing companies.

You don’t have to work

Many humans that don’t work, just collect a paycheck. Little to no hours outside of peak season by design because LL Bean does not want to give Benefits,

Their compensation strategy is designed to be mediocre. All pay and benefits are targeted for EXACTLY the 50th percentile/ market median. This policy allows you to survive, but not thrive. Slow to move. You could have a multimillion dollar idea that goes nowhere because, "We've never done that before," / "That's not how we do it."

Irregular/unreliable hours, corporate keeps slashing payroll, scheduling is often left to the automated software so some weeks you'll work almost full time and others you'll get maybe 1 shift a week, no benefits for part timers.

Great company culture, benefits, hybrid work opportunity, activities for interns, etc.

Not many downsides to be honest
