Toxic Work Environment and Unethical Practices at LaserAway: A Cautionary Tale

      Treatment specialist
      Current employee
      Los Angeles, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

LaserAway offers a wide range of advanced treatments.

      Cons

I am compelled to share my experience with LaserAway, which has been deeply troubling and disheartening. I joined the company with high hopes, only to find that the reality was vastly different from what was promised. 1. Misleading Recruitment and Expectations: I was initially drawn to LaserAway by what seemed like a fantastic opportunity, but my experience quickly soured. The recruitment process included a bait-and-switch tactic: I was led to believe I would be stepping into a high-value sales role. However, the reality was far from it. I was assigned to a “mentor” who soon went on FMLA leave due to stress, which she described as a normal part of the job. This mentor, along with at least 30 other reps, had experienced similar issues, highlighting a pervasive problem within the company. 2. Inadequate Training and Unreasonable Demands: Training was insufficient and did not prepare me for the actual job. Despite repeated requests for help, I received minimal support. I was expected to meet a $50,000 sales quota in my first month without proper training or guidance. The company’s approach was not only unrealistic but also highly stressful, which is concerning for a medical facility where such high-pressure sales tactics should not be the norm. 3. Retaliation and Stressful Work Environment: After raising concerns about systemic issues and requesting additional training, I faced immediate retaliation. The environment is extremely stressful, with employees often working excessive hours and being pressured to meet impossible targets. Reports suggest that over 30 employees have gone on stress leave, which speaks volumes about the company’s work culture. 4. Ethical Concerns: The lack of transparency, excessive pressure, and retaliatory practices are alarming. The company’s focus on high-pressure sales in a medical setting is not only unethical but also harmful. This behavior is indicative of deeper systemic issues that need addressing. In summary, my experience at LaserAway has been marred by misleading practices, inadequate training, and severe retaliation. I urge potential employees and patients to proceed with caution and be aware of the potential challenges and ethical concerns associated with this company.

      Pros

This is a great company to get your foot in the door of aesthetic nursing. They provide all your training for the treatments they offer and actually prefer hiring nurses that have minimal to no experience in the field. There’s some room for growth within the company.

      Cons

Double booking patients so you often feel rushed to finish treatments or fall behind schedule, overall company seems to focus more on making money over employee happiness and feedback, policies are set in stone with no flexibility.

      Pros

Decent schedule and benefits, possible opportunity to grow

      Cons

Not as much opportunity as outside Hiring, lack of transparency and support and huge turnover; lots of backbiting and too focused on growth and not fostering their current locations. Totally lost the vision from when I started.

      Pros

Very upfront about the interview process and what can be expected from the position. There is also a lot of support as far as training and several resources are available to help answer any questions.

      Cons

Some may not like that the clinics are open seven days a week, but I think it offers unique scheduling opportunities.

Horrible company culture with unrealistic income promises

      Remote sales consultant
      Former employee
      Virginia Beach, VA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Horrible company with no work life balance, sneaky and ever-changing compensation package, stagnant management and high turnover. You could also be subjected to some coworkers that are petty and/or bully. Your district leader is also your direct manager (red flag) and spends just as much time recruiting versus growing her actual team of 100 people. Also be wary of the constant propaganda as a new hire and some of the veteran sales consultants. Benefits for medical are expensive and high deductible options and do not include preventative care.

      Cons

Being remote saves gas/time. Promises of high income based on your high volume aesthetic sales capability (20%), organization territory, lead quality, current sales.

Good place to work, needs improvement.

      Pros

My experience with LaserAway has been decent overall, with good benefit options, schedule flexibility, and zero at-home work to take with me, which has been a huge breath of fresh air. I've enjoyed the following aspects of LaserAway, 4 or 5 day full day work options, Paid Time Off accumulation, hourly and commission based pay, uncapped commission, low stress work environment, informative training, systems and processes in place for ease of work flow, and simple communication systems.

      Cons

Now, most of the pros also have a con side of the story that I've noticed from my short time here, however, I understand not all places of work are perfect. Running a large complex company offers a multitude of challenges and problems when keeping things uniform. With each region running slightly different, different leadership styles, markets vary, etc. however, I believe there are some major flaws that could improve the workplace with LaserAway drastically. One of the biggest issues is the atmosphere of greed. Money does crazy things to people and LaserAway's Standard Operating Procedures are in place for a reason, but many times throughout my time here, I've seen Senior Management unfairly rule out poor conclusions for my team members who worked hard for patients. I can't help but think this may be a common occurrence throughout the company. I believe there are much more effective ways to handle these situations. I'll keep the next thing short and sweet, but I've noticed many times patients are not treated as people, but as $$$. Though communication is simple and easy through the various avenues and systems set up, it often is ineffective and without solutions from direct management. This may be just my region, but it's discouraging to see with my own situations, but most of my teammates go through this as well. Overall, LaserAway is a good place to work, but falsities behind many of the smiles and empty promises behind the words of encouragement.

Great Brand, Poor Management and Lack of Support for New Employees

      Patient care coordinator
      Former employee
      San Diego, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

LaserAway has a beautiful brand presence, modern clinics, and strong marketing that brings in a steady flow of patients. The products and services are high-quality, and some of the team members are genuinely kind and passionate about aesthetics.

      Cons

Unfortunately, the internal culture doesn’t match the polished image. There is a clear divide between senior employees and new hires — senior staff dominate sales and opportunities, while new employees often struggle to get fair training or support. The onboarding process is minimal, and there’s little guidance once you’re in the clinic. If you’re new, it’s nearly impossible to hit quota consistently, and without that, it’s very hard to make decent money. Management is disorganized and often unsupportive, especially when it comes to personal circumstances or work-life balance. There’s no flexibility or leave options for newer employees — even in serious situations, the company offers little to no support. Scheduling is also a mess, with last-minute changes, long hours, and little consistency.

The worst company I have ever encountered

      Registered nurse
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The people I worked with in clinic.

      Cons

RUN AS FAST AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN! These reviews are not exaggerating in the slightest. If you work here you are at risk of losing your license. They have REPEATEDLY shortened treatment times, so some laser appointments are as short as 5 minutes- God forbid someone has to use the bathroom when they get there. In addition, you will be back to back all day and double and triple booked. You get one day to learn a new treatment in training (which you get paid $20/hour for), with maybe a few models to treat before you are completely on your own. You will NOT feel well equipped, prepared, or supported. The remote sales team deliberately lies to patients to get a sale, and you have to be the bearer of bad news when you are honest about treatment expectations and results. The remote sales team will also remove a current patient appointment to replace with a new patient that just sold, so they do not experience “buyers remorse.” They make it impossible for patients to receive refunds for treatments they are not candidates for or are no longer interested in. They will even encourage patients to “try it just once” so if they do refund they will only be able to receive a small fraction of what they initially paid. The turnover rate is incredibly high due to the unethical behavior of corporate. Overall, Laseraway is a very inhumane, immoral, and money hungry company. They do not care about you or the patients in the slightest. I would give zero stars if I could.

      The Med-Surg of Aesthetics

      Registered nurse, bsn
      Former employee
      San Diego, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Aesthetics is a highly competitive field, especially in Southern California. This is a great company to get your foot in the door. They prefer to hire people with no experience in aesthetics and will train you on all treatments. You do not have to pay for certifications! Within the first year you will be trained on all treatments. They are now training new hires on Botox within the first 2 months. Get your training at LA and then go to a nicer clinic where you can learn more advanced treatments. This is a great option for nurses looking to leave the hospital and take on a simpler role. The work life balance is great.

      Cons

This is a profit over patients establishment that prioritizes the sales team. The schedule will be overbooked, and you will be given conflicting rhetoric around patient care. The medical team will tell you to prioritize patient safety and to not rush through treatments. The sales team will tell you to be quicker and will interrupt your breaks to tell you that you have a patient waiting. While the work is much easier than in the hospital, the disconnect between sales and medical leads to unnecessary stress. Double and triple bookings are a daily occurrence. Most nurses last between 6 months to two years. You get a 3% raise every year, which is ridiculous considering how much money the more experienced nurses make the company. You are not rewarded for performing more complex treatments.
