Great work-life balance but pretty competitive pay given it's a government contracting job. The culture is very accommodating to their employees, offering a lot of perks onsite, decent benefits and great educational programs where they will help cover a lot of your tuition. It's also the cultural norm to be able to switch groups if things don't work out since it's a very large organization.

Slower paced depending on the group, especially if you don't have your clearance yet. The process to getting one can take a long time but a lot of engineers I've met are able to get it on the job. Pay is still lower than the mean in Silicon Valley, no bonuses, and they removed pensions a while ago so you need to rely on 401k and Roth IRA options for retirement.

Favoritism and nepotism in some areas, hard to move into new roles, you will only get noticed if you volunteer for anything and everything, and even then you’ll need to work harder for a promotion. If you’re not a “hey pick me” person good luck just doing an awesome job. Complaints aren’t taken seriously. Bad actors often get rewarded even after getting punished. The leadership spews ethics, morals and valuing employees but the exact opposite is running rampant in the lab.
