      Pros

Great work environment, yearly raise, good benefits and compensation. Room for overtime and promotions.

      Cons

Can get repetitive in the work; putting up the truck, cash register, bakery. Do not get stuck in one department, cross train and ask to move around. There’s frequent changes in planograms of the aisle and can be frustrating for customers. For managers there are no set schedules which is the biggest con, makes it hard to have a work life balance.

This place changes you... and not in a good way

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good compensation and ability to rack up a lot of PTO; opportunities to take on significant new work and really stretch your abilities... although this is also a drawback...

      Cons

There are a lot of negative reviews about working at Lidl's corporate office here, and they're all true - so I won't spend time rehashing what's already been written with regard to the recent RTO debacle, layoffs, and general decline of morale. The last year that I worked for Lidl was generally awful for my mental health, but more so, it's had a significant and lasting effect on my own professionalism. There's a truly nasty culture there - it's cliquey and passive-aggressive and gossipy and alienating... honestly, it meets the definition of a hostile working environment. Success comes from being the most stubborn and selfish person in the room, not from collaboration. I didn't realize how ingrained this attitude had become in me until I started a new job and realized that I had learned to approach every interaction with suspicion and disdain for my colleagues. Now, I'm actively working every day to unlearn this. In short, I'd caution anyone against working for Lidl - but especially younger workers who are still learning the bounds of what's acceptable or professional. It's not only an unpleasant environment in the moment, but it may derail your professional development and affect your success at future employment for years to come.

      Pros

I spent approximately 18 months on the Sales Management Graduate Scheme at Lidl GB, and while it definitely had some positives, the experience overall was incredibly intense and, at times, overwhelming. The pay is very competitive for a graduate scheme, and you’re given a lot of responsibility from day one. It’s a fast-paced environment that does teach you resilience, how to work under pressure, and how to manage large teams and operations.

      Cons

That being said, the work-life balance is practically non-existent. There were days where I would start my shift at noon and not finish until 5am the following day. Being contactable at all hours, including weekends and late nights, is not just expected—it’s the norm. It often felt like you were expected to have no personal life or commitments outside of work. Plans with family and friends were regularly cancelled or interrupted due to having to come into work or stay late, and there was little to no respect for boundaries. The management culture made things even more difficult. Support from leadership was minimal, and feedback was rarely constructive. The attitude seemed to be that you should just "figure it out" and keep pushing, regardless of how sustainable that was. It’s a very sink-or-swim environment with high turnover and limited empathy for the demands being placed on us as staff.

Not for the feint hearted. Not too much room to make mistakes.

Great benefits and pay above the rest of the market.

      Cons

You have no work life balance, and if you advocate for one they knock you for it in your reviews if they don’t find an excuse to let you go. When I started the company had a much better balance and seemingly straight forward plan. Now, every few days the strategy changes and you end up doing the same work over and over on top of the new work they’re adding on.

Great Team and Good Pay, but Be Ready for Long Hours

      Shift manager
      Current employee
      Croydon, England
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

One of the best aspects of working as a Shift Manager at Lidl is the good pay. The compensation is competitive for the role, and there are real opportunities for career growth if you're looking to take on more responsibility. Another highlight is the team atmosphere—everyone I’ve worked with has been friendly and supportive, which makes the work environment feel positive, even on hectic days.

      Cons

However, the job does come with its challenges. The hours can be long and physically demanding, especially during busy periods or when we're short-staffed. It’s definitely a high-pressure role, and you need to be ready to manage multiple tasks at once in a fast-paced environment. If you thrive on being busy, it’s great, but it’s not for the faint-hearted.
