What is the feeling of job security at Microsoft?

      Microsoft reviews

Varied work and unlimited PTO, but low pay concerns

      Software engineer
      Current employee
      Redmond, WA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Lots of variation in the kind of work you can do and the types of culture you can find due to the sheer size of the company (don't like your team? transfer to another!) Unlimited PTO is a huge plus, never have to worry about taking time off for anything, even last minute Drs appointments Health insurance is pretty great

      Cons

The pay is lower than most other companies in the area, interesting/impactful work can be hard to find, and there has been very little stability in terms of layoffs

Good pay and perks but no job security and office politics

      Software engineer
      Current employee
      Hyderābād
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      1. Pay and perks is good but not good as faang and high paying startups

      Cons

      1. You will mostly work in internal tools which most of the times is buggy that has no value outside and build time will take 8 hours for a small change 2. No job security. Lot of people were given low ratings and were forced to resign by toxic managers On whole its better to go to faang or some high paying startups than joining microsoft if you want high pay with a risk as microsoft pays average and risk is also high. Dont join microsoft if you are planning for long term.

      Changing culture

      Senior product designer
      Current employee
      Redmond, WA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

DEI still strong, and highly valued but it really depends which division/org you’re in.

      Cons

Moving towards performance based culture (which isn’t design friendly), company culture is suffering with layoffs, and leadership a bit overinvested in AI initiatives, causing product quality to suffer.

      just fine

      Senior software engineer
      Former employee
      Dallas, TX
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

benefits, work life balance, unlimited PTO

      Cons

low pay compared to other FAANGS, never ending layoffs that create an anxious culture, many projects only put in motion to get someone in leadership promoted.

      Culture is broken

      Senior software engineer
      Current employee
      Redmond, WA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Used to be a nice place to work with smart people and low pressure.

      Cons

The last two years of layoffs have killed company morale and its become a culture of fear.

      Mostly Good

      Software engineer
      Current employee
      Redmond, WA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good work life balance, collaborative culture, good benefits, flexible work schedule

      Cons

Less pay compared to other large tech companies, office politics, layoffs

Great peers and directs, Sr Leadership harkening back to Kevin Turner toxic culture

      Director, csa
      Former employee
      Chicago, IL
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

opportunities to learn, great peer support, lots of kind hearted people at my level and reporting to me

      Cons

Sr leadership said a lot of great things but followed up with layoffs and hyper competitive, scarcity mindset performance metrics and tactics

Oldie Tech Powerhouse with New Twist

      Principal engineering manager
      Former employee
      Redmond, WA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - A lot of competent people with own ecosystem and product line, though increasingly open. - Reliably driving solutions particularly in enterprise space. Seems has better care of employee growth - Pivot to AI doesn't seem to catch a lot of discussion in the community but is making solid progress

      Cons

      - pay is quite bit less compared to other trendier tech companies - like other companies, layoffs from AI is real and causing a lot of anxiety among employees - slow to generate innovative ideas

Overall a great place to work, experience depends highly on your team

      Senior product manager
      Current employee
      Prague
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Smart people, great benefits, good pay and mostly stable job if you can avoid the occasional layoffs. Good opportunity to grow and learn, especially if have a good manager who is aligned with your career goals.

      Cons

Some teams have different culture than others, and are more political. If you get an average manager who cannot navigate that on behalf of you, you will face challenges, especially in career growth.

Once used to be a great place to work

      Anonymous employee
      Current employee
      Nairobi
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Used to have an amazing culture with good benefits. They used to trust us to do our work in an effective way.

      Cons

AI race, layoffs, limited career growth, low rewards, and (soon) removal of flexible work has made the culture terrible. Team morale is down, everyone on edge, long working hours. Leadership doesn’t care for people anymore
