      Pros

Great pay, achieve more then 8 dogs a day receive 55% commission

      Cons

      Health issues, more so physically

Good starting point for a beginner trainer

      Pros

Gets your foot in the door, you learn basic dog training, learn how to run classes and work with clients and their dogs as well as learning useful products in the pet industry which comes in handy. Great to start off as a baby trainer.

      Cons

No further training past the initial and for me there were no other trainers on location so you have to figure things out on your own. Also very corporatey and you end up doing a lot of non dog training tasks when you aren’t actively training like running the cash register or stocking shelves. On top of that the commission definitely could have been better, they offer 15% when I’ve seen other places offer 40% or more, plus they have the cheapest prices ergo the cheapest commissions so it ends up not compensating for the minimum wage you start at.

      Don't recommend working here m

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The pay is decent (50% commission on all sales OR $15 per hour if you aren't making that in commission)

      Cons

The work environment is toxic. If you're new then you'll probably get bullied out. The groomers and grooming Leader will talk cr.ap behind your back constantly. Benefits su.ck. PTO su.cks. No payed holidays. The only days you get off holiday wise are Thanksgiving DAY and Christmas DAY, nothing else. Weekends are required (at least one weekend day per week) If you go to report a situation with a higher up, they will not care or help.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Its commission based mostly, otherwise the hourly is pretty low unless you have experience and can ask for more base pay.

      Cons

During slow season, the commission is much lower until you have an established salon.

      Dog grooming at Petco

      Dog groomer
      Former employee
      Tracy, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Petco focuses highly on pet safety. There are good benefits and good pay which, for groomers is commission or base pay - whichever is more that pay period.

      Cons

They can sometimes put a lot of pressure on you to up sell add on packages.

Good starting career, but leave after 1-2 years

      Pet stylist (dog groomer)
      Former employee
      Williamsburg, VA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

You get exposure to a lot of breeds and people. This can help you build your skills. Petco also pays 50-55% commission which is great.

      Cons

Petco started to push an unsafe amount of dogs on groomers, less care for the safety of the groomer and the pet, more focus on making money. Non-groomers making rules and setting prices.

      Grooming salon manager
      Former employee
      Bowling Green, KY
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great pay if you have a busy salon but your commission is completely dependent on your stylists and their productivity.

      Cons

Corporate micro manages everything and the quality of your store and work environment completely relies on who the store manager is and how they run the store. There is no continuity between locations. The training they give is laughable.

      Good benefits and decent pay

      Pros

      Cons

A lot of things to sell

      Numbers over safety

      Professional pet stylist
      Current employee
      Holly Springs, NC
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Pay and commission incentive were comparable to other salons in the area

      Cons

must groom $1600 a week to make commission Cannot put blocks on your schedule No communication about new rules or policies, implementation without notice. Lunches are a privilege and not a right due to over scheduling.

Steady work with few ways to climb in pay

      Dog trainer pro
      Current employee
      Santa Clara, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Unique position available not just to people wtih prior experience but also newcomers looking to leran and expand their skills. Hourly pay on top of earning about 20% of all sales with potnetial to go up to 25% Very good employee discount

      Cons

Hourly pay stays stagnant Commission is affected by discounts and with a monthly offer to dog training services, commission always comes up shorter if you're not making really good sales Will have to assume store responsibilities as it is still a retail job. Be prepared to help with weekly merchandise stocking, cashiering, and being invested in store's overall sales Ease of job may depend heavily on management
