      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great customers, great benefits, decent pay, fun culture and animals/pets.

      Cons

Working long hours to finish task that can be difficult due to low payroll. Staffing is minimal and the expectations are high.

      Pros

Very good starting job with good benefits. The base pay is great compared to other starting paying jobs in the US. They implemented new roles that all have a chance of moving up within the company. It's also a good job to get experience.

      Cons

Not really any downsides from my part.

Good starting point for a beginner trainer

      Dog trainer
      Former employee
      Lakewood, CA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Gets your foot in the door, you learn basic dog training, learn how to run classes and work with clients and their dogs as well as learning useful products in the pet industry which comes in handy. Great to start off as a baby trainer.

      Cons

No further training past the initial and for me there were no other trainers on location so you have to figure things out on your own. Also very corporatey and you end up doing a lot of non dog training tasks when you aren’t actively training like running the cash register or stocking shelves. On top of that the commission definitely could have been better, they offer 15% when I’ve seen other places offer 40% or more, plus they have the cheapest prices ergo the cheapest commissions so it ends up not compensating for the minimum wage you start at.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Petco focuses highly on pet safety. There are good benefits and good pay which, for groomers is commission or base pay - whichever is more that pay period.

      Cons

They can sometimes put a lot of pressure on you to up sell add on packages.

      Pros

Its commission based mostly, otherwise the hourly is pretty low unless you have experience and can ask for more base pay.

      Cons

During slow season, the commission is much lower until you have an established salon.

Supportive team, but pay is very low

      Grooming salon manager
      Former employee
      Bowling Green, KY
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great pay if you have a busy salon but your commission is completely dependent on your stylists and their productivity.

      Cons

Corporate micro manages everything and the quality of your store and work environment completely relies on who the store manager is and how they run the store. There is no continuity between locations. The training they give is laughable.
