      Spokeo

      Senior business account specialist
      Former employee
      Los Angeles, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Spokeo was a great job to have in regards to having a full time job with great occasional team events and in house lunches. It’s a smaller company and a lot of the employees are friendly to each other.

      Cons

The company hired 3 B2B sales associates via temp work agencies and let all 3 sales agents go after roughly two years of employment for various insignificant reasons then te hired new talent directly under salary compensation vs hourly. Maybe Spokeo was testing the waters with the new B2B sales team when the original team was hired. A new senior leader was brought in from another company and he was a nightmare to work under for the B2B sales team.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the camaraderie, and team events, that we offer as part of our work culture. Creating an environment where team members feel supported and connected is important to us, and we’re always looking for ways to improve that experience. Regarding your feedback on our B2B sales team and leadership, we appreciate your perspective and take it seriously. We would note, that none of our account executives are hired via temp agencies but are direct hires with commission opportunities. We do understand how leadership styles can greatly impact the work environment, and we are committed to fostering growth, providing thoughtful coaching, and ensuring our team members feel valued. We’ll continue to evaluate how we can better support all employees, including through leadership development and open communication. Thanks again for your time with us, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

As a contractor you mak $18/hr, if you get hired on it's $20/hr. Pay does not reflect a livable wage in 2024

      20% staff reduction, going downhill

      Senior software engineer
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      * True Remote-First Culture: Never felt pressured to go into the office * Decent Compensation: Salary and benefits are... satisfactory. * Many engineers care about best practices and advocate for positive changes in the codebase. * Less bureaucracy: As a small company, there is less red tape, though it's not completely absent. * Work-Life Balance: Used to be good, but has been deteriorating amidst the scramble to save the company.

      Cons

      * Recent 20% staff reduction * Ongoing Silent Layoffs: Folks frequently fired for 'performance reasons' * Incompetent Engineers: Promotions are based on seniority and politics rather than performance, and people are often fired for going against the grain * Lack of Diversity, especially among engineers/leadership. Practically zero female representation. D&I efforts are lip service at best

We continue to serve millions of unique visitors on a monthly basis and will keep investing in new products and features so that we can indeed unlock more value for our users and subscribers. Despite recently having to make the tough decision to part ways with some teammates, we continue to be bullish about the future. Our company culture remains vibrant, and we continue to offer perks like our flexible work location program (thank you for noting it!) and great healthcare benefits while also keeping our compensation packages highly competitive.
