What are pay increases like at Walgreens?

      Great entry level management position

      Pros

Base pay is excellent for an entry level retail management career. PTO/vacation is fairly generous and accrues quickly. You may have up to have absences without needing a doctors note/possible disciplinary action/etc.

      Cons

Work-life balance is not great, you can work 7+ days in a row especially if your store is short staffed. Weekends and evenings are also typically required of most shift leads. Though base pay is good, you only get a 1% raise annually on average.

      Pros

On the retail level there are no pro to the job, except if you are in college and use the job to get basic daily necessities. Also the co works will make or break the job for you.

      Cons

A lot of task and little time to do them. The job is boring and no room for advancement. They pay minimum wage and when ever the wage goes up it cancels whatever raise you get from the yearly review and they only give a raise of a few cents based on the review.

      Pros

      Cons

Everything literally. The company is constantly adding more to your plate, with no pay raise or if you get one it’s like $.10. Because when it come to evaluation time they will find every excuse in the book as to why you don’t deserve a raise. Then they start cutting hours so badly that you’re apply to the local fast food restaurant.. but guess what the expectations are still high & you are expected to damn near kill yourself with no help.

Promotion opportunities; easy to climb up the ladder if you put enough dedication in.

      Cons

You will be expected to do a 3-4 man job on your own. Little to no staff scheduled most of the time. The pay raise is literally a few pennies.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good work/life balance Good pay Great bonus, when you get one

      Cons

Financial performance has been lack luster, so bonuses are getting rarer and lower, if any. Long term employees never get a pay bump even for cost of living increases and minimum wage increases.

Demanding Work for Cheap, Low Pay

      Shift leader
      Former employee
      Chicago, IL
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good opportunity to gain experience in retail, with a strong teamwork dynamic depending on location. I loved my job.

      Cons

The workload can be overwhelming, especially at busy locations, with responsibilities that don’t align with the pay rate. There’s often a lack of accountability among team members, with some Shift Leads not contributing equally, and store managers tend to overlook this as long as tasks are completed. Schedules are inflexible, with frequent night, weekend, and holiday shifts, making work-life balance challenging. Walgreens does not appear invested in employee retention, as there is no annual pay increase. Additionally, the company often cuts store hours, reducing the number of paid hours available. This results in understaffed shifts, with fewer people scheduled than are actually needed to manage the workload effectively.
