      Network Development Senior Engineer Interview

      Jul 8, 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Seattle, WA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Jun 2019

      Interview

Pretty usual FAAG company interview, so I will not repeat the usual. but will only try to explain how different Amazon does things, a bit. observation-1: For every theoretical question (like bgp/ospf/mpls/etc) they will surely follow-up with a "give me example" from your professional experience like a debug/DTS/customer-scenario. Be prepared and do not try to make up stuff, they will go deep into these and you cannot fake examples. observation-2: Unlike facebook/google, in my case amazon changed interview strategy soon after they knew my technical strength in networking was good. they actually said we are changing next two rounds and made it more like a probing technical round than straight up networking/coding round. don't worry, if this happens that means you are probably doing good. observation-3: I heard a lot of hearsay about amazon being a bit rude/rough with the interview process or behavior. I did not see that. they were well matching facebook and google demeanor as in they were egging you to do well and so on. So, be confident and do not go by these hear-say. Then again I guess it varies with each team. Observation-4: I had a split-loop interview as there were two teams interested in my candidature. I was initially skeptical about this process and there is a lot of rumors that if one team rejects you then other team cannot proceed even if they wanted to. But this is not completely true. Unless the rejection is due to fundamental behavioral/attitude issue, the other team can certainly go ahead and hire you. so do not be concerned about that. Observation-5: The whole amazon interview actually gives a very good sneak-peak into what that team is and what amazon is. So try to be genuine and see if amazon is a good fit for you. The reason they give a good sneak-peak is because they are unique and tough work place. so its important that both employer and employee choose each other here. I cannot go into specifics of the questions, it's just not ethical. I will however go over broader areas of questions, which am sure the recruiter would go through with you the same.

      Interview questions [3]

      Question 1

Technical in-depth of BGP/OSPF/MPLS/LDP/RSVP. RFC level and CCIE level. both theory and practical/deployment/debugging.
      Answer question

      Question 2

Lots of behavioral questions. I suggest do not prepare for each question, it does not work that way to fake answers per question. But surely have two genuine personal examples per amazon principles(example can overlap principles, no issues). and use them to answer the behavioral questions.
      Answer question

      Question 3

NDE or Q/A related practical questions. including planning and execution, time lines, risks, project analysis, technology analysis. this is very generic area with floor open for discussion. the more inputs you provide more points you get. so keep making good points until the interviewer stops you.
