      Graduate Technical Consultant Interview

      Mar 26, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Birmingham, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Autodesk (Birmingham, England) in Nov 2017

      Interview

The day was split into 4 main stages: a test in the morning followed by a presentation, lunch and then an interview to finish off the day. The test was challenging but this was mainly due to how all the questions were designed to catch you out in the most lazy ways possible. For example one question was "There are 10 trees equally spaced apart along a road. Someone starts at tree 1 and runs to tree 7 in 7 seconds. How long does it take to get to tree 10?" I assumed the answer was 10 seconds and since there was not much time for the test I put this. However, because they started at tree one, they ran past 6 trees in 7 seconds - so the answer is more than 10s (11.66s). This kind of trick is lazy and much easier to spot when your not under pressure and in timed conditions. All of the questions were like this. How are these appropriate / useful for a Technical Consultant? Following the test was a presentation where each person had to complete a 5 minute presentation on "my life's history". This was nerve wracking since it was in front of around 25 people I had never met before but everyone's presentations went smoothly. I don't think the content here is important, they just want to see how good your presentation skills are. During lunch they had new employees come round and chat with you. I think it is important to engage as much as possible here since you are definitely still being evaluated at this point. The interview wasn't too bad, there were two people interviewing me and it came off like they were trying to do a good cop bad cop routine. One of them was extremely friendly whilst the other one kept a straight face throughout the entire interview. The questions were the general "why are you suited to this role?", "explain what CAD is" etc. The reason I have left a negative review is because despite Autodesk claiming they will inform you if you have the offer or not in 2 weeks I did not hear from them for over 2 months. We were also promised feedback from the day but I did not receive any at all meaning the whole day was essentially a waste of time. NOT ONLY was it a waste of time but it was a waste of money since Autodesk have still not given me my expenses for travelling and accommodation! I have been in touch with them multiple times (without a response) since the interview day in November, it is now March and I am yet to see my expenses. I would not want a job with a company that can't even sort out £100 worth of expenses - I have had other interviews with other companies all of which sorted them with no problem. I recommend anyone who has done an assessment day with Autodesk to chase up your expenses as soon as possible.

      Question 1

There was one question that did throw me off which was "why are manhole covers round?" I was confused because I thought I'd seen many square ones before.
