I applied through college or university. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at BASF in Oct 2012
Interview
Initially submitted my application to BASF before my university's career fair through their online application system as well as my university's career center. Application took about 20 minutes and was fairly standard. Attended the career fair and spoke with a representative for probably about 10 minutes. I might have given them a resume, but I'm not sure. I was contacted by email probably about a month later that I had been selected for an on campus interview. The on campus interview was in the career center and consisted of two 45-minute one-on-one sessions with some middle aged engineering managers. I was contacted within two days that I had been invited for a site visit in Freeport, TX. The site visit consisted of a welcome dinner the night before, three 30-minute interviews, a plant tour, and a number of presentations. I was done with the site visit by mid-afternoon. I was contacted within about three days with an offer.
Most of the interviews were a combination of behavior and background questions. "Tell me about your internships". I only had one person ask me to talk about a heat exchanger for 10 minutes.

pretty difficult, they will probe very deep into your resume to make sure you know what you're talking about. technical questions can get very involved, but you don't have to know all of them

Interview
I spoke to a rep at a career fair and scheduled an on campus interview. I had two 30 minute interviews. One consisted of a few technical questions and the other was behavioral based. The rep said the turn around time would be quick and they would let me know if I would receive an offer soon.
