I applied in-person. I interviewed at Belk (Shallotte, NC) in May 2011
Interview
I had two interviews. One with the HR manager and one with the department manager. first I completed the online application and then I followed up with a phone call. I did get the job and worked there for more than 2 years but overall it was a miserable experience and I do not recommend it.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
There wasn't any question that sticks out as being unusual or difficult. However, I was able to negotiate a better starting salary. They won't tell you that, but if you have exprience and fight for it, you can get a higher starting salary.
I was a referral and had a brief discussion with the manager and got the job relatively easily. I think getting this job was one of the easier jobs I was able to obtain. However, this was back in 2010.

Question 1
They asked me what my availability would be since it was around the holiday season.
One Interview with the department manager for a sales position. Super short, simple, and to the point.
I received the offer same down and then had to schedule onboarding with Human Resources.
It was your basic questions. Went fine. Nothing too detailed but it was for a base position at the holidays. They were looking for anyone dependable with a car basically.
