      Lead Engineer Interview

      Interview

I applied for a Lead Engineer position at Box, and the interviewers themselves were genuinely great—professional, cooperative, and easy to talk to. The discussions were meaningful, and it initially felt like a well-run process with a strong team behind it. However, the overall interview experience turned into a bit of an endurance test. The process stretched to 7 rounds, and after completing around 4, I was told I had cleared everything and that an offer was expected. Then came an unexpected “cooling-off” period of about 4 weeks with no communication. Just when I assumed the process had concluded, I was informed of a “policy change,” requiring 3 additional rounds—essentially revisiting similar conversations all over again. After all that, the final outcome was a rejection. While decisions can go either way, the constantly shifting process, repeated rounds, and long silence made the experience frustrating. Suggestion to the company: a more structured, transparent, and time-conscious hiring process would make a big difference—candidates shouldn’t feel like they’re preparing for a multi-season series just to get a final answer
