      Declined offer
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at British Airways (London, England) in Sep 2017

      Interview

On the morning of my assessment i arrived at Waterside 40 minutes early (at 6:50am) for my assessment to start at 7:30am. There were already around 12 applicants waiting in the waiting area at this time so I would advise arriving early as it's a good time to become familiar with names and introduce yourself. You're then taken to do height / reach tests etc which are over within 30 seconds. They are very strict about this though and people on my assessment day were sent home for being half an inch too short so I wouldn't advise risking this if you're close to their height limits. You're then taken to a very elitist "you don't understand how lucky you are to be being considered by BA" presentation and taken through a presentation with a sample roster, given some company facts and told you're not allowed to post anything about your assessment as "they will find out who you are and appropriate action will be taken". You're then moved back to reception where names are quickly called for group assessments and roleplays. I do genuinely believe that BA plant candidates in the recruitment days and have fair ideas on who they were in our assessment day so do not let your entire guard down all day and be careful what you say about tasks / questions. The group task is fairly general. You're given a scenario, a budget to fulfil the scenario with and each person has 2 or 3 ideas with an amount of money beside it and you have to discuss the proposals you have. As long as you contribute your own ideas and don't just agree with everything being said you'll be fine. The roleplay varies depending on the assessor you get. There are a few scenarios given I believe but it's always going to be an angry customer and you're not expected to know BA procedures. People who had women seemed to genuinely enjoy it whereas people who had male assessors said they were very intimidating and may have crumbled under the pressure. If you mess up during it, it is important to admit to your own mistake quickly and apologise for it before moving on. Always check with the assessor that they are happy with your outcome. Although quite intimidating, don't overthink it and stay in your role. Quite quickly after everyone returning to reception a member of staff will come and call out all of the "No" names first and take them away into a room and tell them to leave. It's normally quite easy to tell with the candidates being taken in this group that it's a no. Our group was cut down from around 40 to 12. We weren't provided with any lunch, or time for lunch and people began being called for interviews almost immediately. There were around 5 different interview panels and it is complete luck of the draw which one you get as they vary so much. A friend had an assessment day the week before and her 20 minute interview turned into 40 minutes as she had two younger girls who were chatting to her about her own life afterwards and she was then offered the job. Other people on my assessment day came out of their interview on top of the world saying how lovely their interviewers were and how they were like friends you would meet on a night out. I had two interviewers with a very old interviewing style. It was definitely the most intimidating interview I have ever experienced. The questions are not difficult but the interviewers make them difficult. They are mainly "Tell me about a time when.." questions but interviewers are very intense. When asked about working under pressure I had the words "In my current job.." out before the interviewer was barking "I asked for a specific example" at me (Which I was about to give, was just saying when it happens). For the question what do you know about BA I barely had one sentence finished before they told me to stop, after spending a week reciting BA facts and fleet figures to myself, so i wouldn't worry about learning off facts etc. In the middle of speaking clearly the interviewers would interrupt and ask me if I wanted water etc making it seem like they actually weren't listening at all and had already made their mind up about me. The constant cutting off completely throws you off too so try and remember to stay positive during it as I was naturally so taken aback. After the interview myself and a few other applicants who really stood out during the day sat and talked about our interviews and everyone did agree that it seems to be luck of the draw of the panel you get whether you get the job or not and how they found the interview. This was quite obviously listened into by the applicant who I believe was planted by BA as all of these candidates received rejections even after standing out to me and thinking that their interviews had gone well.

      Interview

A long day, but assessors helped us feel at ease throught the process. The two interviewers had different styles which helped the interview flow. The wait for an offer was the most nerve-racking part.
