      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at British Airways (Heathrow, England) in Jun 2018

      Interview

The interview process personally was very quick! I first applied online on the British Airways website with my CV. I was sent some online assessments these were straight forward with customer based questions. Just take your time and listen to the question carefully. Once I had passed these I was sent an invite to book my assessment day at Waterside near Heathrow Airport. I managed to get a slot for the following week so all in all the first part of the process was very quick. A big thing for me what what to wear and how to present myself. For anyone that is the same I wore a black pencil skirt, a blouse, tights and some heels. For my hair and makeup I did put my hair in the classic sleek bun and I feel this was the right choice as most other people did the same and it made me look more like cabin crew and I just wore my normal everyday makeup. Now for the assessment day: When you go in make sure you go and speak to the other candidates! I feel this really helped as you are being watched but it also helped me relax too because at the end of the day you are all in the same situation and have something in common. When you go to the desk you are given a form this is just basic things regards tattoos/piercings, medical questions, any pre-booked holiday things like that. You will then get called in groups to go the reach tests these are very straightforward as long as you meet the requirements you have nothing to worry about. After this we were all taken into a presentation where they explained the job, example roster, pay, holiday, discounts and everything you needed to know regarding the role. A little bit later you are split into groups again. (I was in a group of 4) We were given a scenario about a new restaurant launch, a list of things we needed and a tight budget. As a group we had to prioritise the list ready for the launch of the restaurant. The biggest thing to remember is the examiners aren't looking for one right answer they are looking at how you work in a group. Try not to be too overpowering but also make sure you make your voice heard, another big thing is to encourage other people to voice their opinion. Once the time was up we were taken back to the room next we were called individually to do the role play.I was given a sheet of paper and given one minute to familiarise myself with it whilst the examiner left the room (I'm not sure whether it was just me being stupid but I was under the impression that I was supposed to memorise the content and re-read it out to him from memory! I was wrong) When he came back into the room he asked me to read it to him and much to my surprise I was allowed to read straight off the paper which was a massive relief! I was then given a scenario on a piece of paper and the examiner pretended to be a unhappy customer I had to use my customer service skills to manage them and come to a conclusion that worked for me and my manager and made the customer happy. Just be yourself and deal with it how you would in the real world again there is no right or wrong answer. Just think about everything before you speak! Now the most nerve wracking part I went back into the room and waited to find out if I got through to the 1:1 interview. The first group was taken off then the rest of us were taken to another room this was when we were told we were successful! So then we went back to wait for our interview. I was put with two older ladies who I personally felt really didn't like me so that threw me off a bit. All of the questions in the interview were 'tell me a time when' questions. Whether thats from employment, studies or personal life just try and think of any example possible. And all questions were customer based. (I would suggest taking some notes to keep going over I had a few example questions and answers of the 'tell me a time when' questions and this helped prompt my answers in the interview) The interview lasted for around 30mins and then I left hoping I had done well and they would want to employ me. 7 working days later I got my email to congratulate me on passing the assessment day I was given a previsionary start date and some information followed after I had responded with my acceptation email. I am now 6 weeks away from my start date and everything is coming together! I decided to write this as I felt reading others experiences helped me A LOT! From when I found out I passed the assessment day to starting is a 6 month process and this happens with pretty much everyone so be prepared for a long wait but hopefully it will all be worth it! Whenever anyone asks me about the assessment day the one was I can sum it up it its a day of being judged on your personality it all comes down to personality! Just be yourself and they will be able to see if your right for the job if you try and be someone else they will know and it's just not worth it be kind be smiley and be yourself! Thats the biggest piece of advice I can give.

      Interview

A long day, but assessors helped us feel at ease throught the process. The two interviewers had different styles which helped the interview flow. The wait for an offer was the most nerve-racking part.
