Interview
Going through the interview process at BrokerBay was a remarkably positive experience for me. The process was well-structured, starting with a clear and concise initial screening followed by detailed technical assessments that were challenging yet fair. The personal interviews felt more like meaningful conversations, allowing me to really understand Brokerbay's innovative approach and culture. What stood out was the level of transparency and the genuine interest in ensuring a good fit for both sides. Feedback was timely and constructive, making the whole experience not only evaluative but also an invaluable learning journey.

Question 1
What is something I'm not likely to ask you that you would want me to know about yourself?

Interview
Interviews went really well until the third and final stage. Where you are given an excel assessment and then supposed to have a "conversation" about your life and what has shaped you to be who you are.
i.e No Professional experience is expected to be talked about here...
Initially, I asked the panel of 3 what were the company values as this was nowhere communicated on the website. To my surprise when they then reached out for a third interview they discovered what their values were and it seemed like they were now benchmarking Shopify by adopting its "Life Story" Interview format and some of its values. Apparently, you're to sell yourself on these newfound values...in a presentation.
The real negative experience here is that it's NOT a conversation but rather a presentation. They sit back look at you and are now going to judge your life experiences to supposedly identify if you are a "culture fit". By butting in here and there... You should consider that this is already a vulnerable ask... I get that you want to keep your start-up "family vibes" going but culture in an organization is going to be dynamic not everyone is gonna be a cookie-cutter and you're no longer a startup perse. I can't say otherwise because I am yet to receive feedback as to where I didn't meet "the cut" in the process.
I'm not convinced the team is sure what their culture really is or what their values really are. Clear communication as to what is to be expected would be very helpful to aspirants.

Question 1
Tell me about a time when you failed/made a mistake.
Tell me about how you handle "free time".

Interview
Two-step interview process.
Step 1 -Writing exercise which involved replying to three example emails from clients. Very straightforward with plenty of instructions provided.
Step 2 - Group interview with both the Supervisor & Director of Customer Success over Zoom. The interaction involved a mix of personality-based and behavioural-based questions. After those, a few role-plays are involved. Finally, a typing test to determine your wpm was required.
I got the sense that they were interviewing for culture fit as much as potential job performance. I found both interviewers professional, yet welcoming in a laid-back tech-startup sort of way. As compared to interviews at more corporate places, it was refreshing to have both parties full-attention during the roughly hour long interview.
