I applied online. I interviewed at CVS Health (New York, NY) in Mar 2025
Interview
Interview Process was quite fast, I applied on Feb 17, within 10 days HR reached out to me for the phone screen round. Then I was moved to live coding round (SQL 3 ques- joins, union, window functions ; Python(Pandas) 4 ques- transpose dataframe, group by, merge).
After this I was moved to round 2 and round 3 which was technical screen ( ML Case study related and A/B testing ) and business screen ( Case study on experimental design, problem solving and A/B testing) which was done in 1 day.
After this I was moved to round 4 which was 30 min interview with the hiring manager ( director ) ( behavioural + team fit) and then I was moved to final round with the executive directior ( resume review, behavioural and team fit)
Be prepared to answer any questions related to work experience you have shown in your resume.
I received offer letter on March 21
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Q1: You are given claims data, with a feature that identify high risk patients who are possibly going to claim larger amount from aetna. You are working as a data scientist and you ran a campaign ( email ) to make high risk patients aware about there need to seek medicare so that they dont end up paying a lot which in return increase claim cost for aetna.
What will be your hypothesis?
What features will you use and why?
Q2: In aetna there are some members for whom getting radiography tests like xray is important and as a data scientist I have to make those patients aware about the non hospital centres where these tests are generally cheaper and would reduce medical cost for patients and claims for cvs.
How would you approach this problem
Q3: why you are looking for job and why do you want to work for cvs?
Q4: Tell me about a project which is your favorite and why it is your favourite
The phone screen was surprisingly in-depth, lasting about 40 minutes and focusing heavily on real-world applications of data science. We discussed model development, particularly for predicting hospital readmissions, which was quite challenging. I had just practiced a similar scenario on PracHub that mirrored this section almost flawlessly. Following this, I went through a technical round where I tackled questions on feature engineering and demographic fairness. Ultimately, I received an offer but decided to decline it after weighing my options.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How would you build a model to predict 30-day hospital readmission risk for chronic patients? Walk through your feature engineering using claims and prescription data, model selection tradeoffs (logistic regression vs gradient boosting given explainability requirements for healthcare), how you'd handle class imbalance (around 10% readmission rate), and how you'd evaluate fairness across demographic groups before deployment.
Easy Chill, comfortable, wasnt difficult, more on health and pharmacy stuff,
Interview was friednly and accommodating, overall i would say good experince, the process was smooth, But applied with out reffereal

Interview
Interestingly, the first round was with AVP, and he discussed many mathematical concepts.. The second and third rounds were on the same day, for coding and case study. One week later was VP interview with behaviors.
