Work From Home Customer Service Specialist Interview

      Aug 30, 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Tampa, FL
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Capital One (Tampa, FL)

      Interview

My experience in the interview/hiring process: applied online roughly 2 months ago. Filled out app and took online assessment. Was emailed about 2 weekends ago stating that I was selected to do a video interview within 2 business days at my convenience. The email linked me to the Hirevue app. I had never done an on-demand interview where I was talking to a computer and being recorded, but I figured it was a first time for everything. I downloaded the app and did the interview. (A quick tip, dress up as if you're doing an in-person interview). I did a few practice questions which helped shake the awkwardness, as you are asked questions and pretty much watch yourself answer them. Some questions were basic, some used the STAR format, so make sure you have some good examples ready. After the 1st 2 questions I got the hang of it. I finished the interview on a Tuesday and was contacted on Thursday to do a phone interview Friday. The recruiter gave me tips for the phone interview which helped a bit, but the best advice is the have examples ready using the STAR format. The phone interview went a little over an hour (a lot of small talk) but the interviewer/hiring manager made things feel very comfortable and explained the process to me thoroughly. Some of the questions were "how did you handle a difficult/demanding customer", "how did you solve a problem by yourself with no help from coworkers or managers", "how would you deliver difficult news to a customer", "how would you explain procedures to a client", etc. There were about 5 questions in all. There was no role play involved as mentioned by other reviewers (i might have gotten lucky). I received a call/email the next Thursday with an offer and to pick from a few different schedules. I didn't have to go in for a face to face (which I wanted to do since i'm a better interviewer when I see the person I'm talking to). Seems like this is the way some companies are going and i'm not complaining since it's saving me gas. Background and credit checks are done after offer is made. All in all, the recruiter and hiring manager answered all of my questions quickly and candidly and the experience was positive.

      Question 1

If you come prepared with 5-8 examples of customer situations and scenarios that demonstrate where you went above and beyond for the customer or showed leadership, you should be pretty prepared and none will be that difficult.
