I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at CarMax (Newport News, VA) in Jul 2020
Interview
I had an initial phone interview which went fabulous, which led to schedule a in person interview. The in person interview was awkward and they used a Behavioral based interview. Managers who us this style of interview, are lost, they dont know how to interview. They hardly wrote anything down. I did very well on that interview. I guess it was when I told them that due to my religious beliefs, I can work Sunday thru Fridays, even on holidays, but I can't work on Saturdays, that was the deal breaker. Oh and they asked me my salary expectations, that probably was a problem also. I've seen other reviews on here and this job title doesn't seem to get paid $40k a year. This was way less than what I was making at my previous employer. But I do thank them for wasting my time driving all the way to Virginia Beach knowing they already had someone else in mind.

Interview
Lengthy online application, quick phone interview, another online application in person, followed by face to face interviews with managers. Be prepared to sign off on having every single piece of your history pulled from different government agencies. They want to know every single job you've held in last 7 years, amount of time unemployed, if you're eligible for rehire, and they will check everything. If one piece is missing or doesn't add up, you are automatically disqualified. All traffic tickets count against you on a point scale (10 points is automatic disqualification), and you better remember every address you've lived at as well as the exact length of time at each. They also pull your credit history. The actual interview is of average difficulty and not very hard in my opinion - it is the background checks that make it difficult. It's hard to remember every single thing from the last 7 years.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Why do you want to work for carmax? Did you leave any jobs off of your resume and if so why? Why did you leave each job you've had in the last 7 years? What did you do at each job? Describe a time when you worked as a team to accomplish a goal?
They want specific examples using the STAR method (explained on their website)
