Initially I had a phone interview with a young lady that went very well. The phone interview went so well in fact that I was then scheduled for a face-to-face interview with the Branch Manager. After the phone interview I was very excited and was looking forward to the face-to-face interview. Can you say, "ALL DOWN HILL FROM THERE?" Guy walks in, doesn't ask for my resume, and doesn't bring one in with him. Can anybody else see the handwriting on the wall? Guy was a strong A type personality - director. After I spoke for about 10 minutes, he basically told me that my manage style "collaborator, team focused" was not a good management style for CareerBuilder. I was apparently too soft, liked people too much...believed in working with my sales team to achieve our goals. Now, I don't believe that A-type personalities are good or bad. Do what works for you, do what gets results. But there is more than one way to skin a cat and more than one management style that gets results. But I digress.
His comment spoke volumes, to me, about the company culture in that office. But, if you read the employee post, on this site, many of their complaints are tied to this very issue. Apparently only Director type management works or is accepted at CareerBuilder (Norcross, GA). Now I know the psychology...people like to hire people who remind them of themselves and since I didn't LOOK, think or manage like this guy, I was a dead man talking. Plus he stated that he had another guy who already worked there that was his best candidate. (Probably LOOKS like him, and thinks like him). Fellow job seekers this interview was a bad joke...and I wasted a perfectly good morning.
FINAL THOUGHTS: A good career opportunity not only has to be a good fit for the company, but it also has to be a good fit for the potential candidate.
